Hi, and thanks for your
time! First of all, please introduce your band to the
readers.
Lady Godyva (vocals): Hi and thanks to you for
this interview. Godyva is a family of friends formed six
years ago. We grew together in the music with a great
desire to communicate our own emotions through an unique
sound (or at least we try hahaha!). This sound, that we
like to call 'intimate goth metal', wants to dig toward
the inside and to throw out the worm of negativity to
finally reach the catharsis absolute. Almost as an
antidote, a magic potion, a care. The band is composed
that way and it consists of me, Frahn on guitars, Botys
on keyboards, Nick on lower part and Enyo on drums.
Let's be a curious whole people, the destiny has played
with us ehehehe... a relationship of love/hate that
never ended so far! Which is a good point anyway, we
love eachother...
How did things get started for Godyva?
Lady Godyva: The things for Godyva started well
enough. we have recorded our first album and we signed a
record contract with the Razar Ice Records, a rib of the
Sorcery Studios that has worked with TNT, Queensryche
and other famous band. It happened summer 2005, I
remember it quite well... the label looked for a new and
fresh gothic band to insert in their catalog, they have
contacted us through our website requesting some
material to listen to, and so after having listened to
our promo they immediately signed us. So this is pretty
much the history of our band so far, hehehe. We are
loaded to shoot new album out now, and we have some
clear ideas and an enormous desire to break everything!
How would you describe your music and why?
Lady Godyva: Like I said before: we like to call
our music 'Intimate Goth Metal'. The lyrics and the
music speak a lot of personal, beautiful or ugly
intimate experiences. Intimate because when we have
created Intimate for the album In Good & Evil, we
decided to consider this song as our point of departure
to compose all the others following songs. I really
adore that song!
What are your main influences?
Lady Godyva: We have so many and different
influences! We listen to different kinds of music. I for
example listen to bands as Disturbed and Samael but I
also listen to Sarah Brightman, Tory Amos, Kate Bush,
David Bowie, Bjork, Peter Murphy, and so on. But other
members always listen to bands as Paradise Lost,
Rammstein, the Gathering, Mandylion, Depeche Mode,
Katatonia, Korn... the list is endless.
Your album 'In Good and Evil' recently came out. What
can we expect of that album?
Lady Godyva: We want people to discover us with
this album, to remember our name. In Good & Evil has to
open doors to the world of the music for us, and we hope
the doors will be open very wide. we are satisfied with
what we are doing.
What are your personal views on the album?
Lady Godyva: I think 'In Good and Evil' is Good,
Good and Good, and a very little Evil. We all think it's
a beautiful album with a good production, in short its
just a good product.
Your band operates under a certain image. How
important is image for a band like Godyva? And how is
that image connected with your live performances?
Lady Godyva: Image is important for a band like
ours, and it is assembles most of all on me. The looks,
from the makeup to the hair to the suit, plays a
fundamental role because I have always believed that the
people first want to see something before they actually
listen. Therefore, the show appearance is primary! Then
it also becomes quite necessary too, otherwise the
people don't come to see you a second or a third time.
On live shows we always try to maintain a certain rigor
in the looks, but it is always on me that we assemble
the attention!
Various other Italian bands try to find their luck
outside of Italy, because of their bad experience with
the Italian audience. What are your experiences on it?
Lady Godyva: We are not only trying to get
success out of Italy, we are also trying to have our
comparison inside Italy. Therefore we are looking
forward to the distribution that the label will do in
our country. For us it is not a tragic situation, we
believe in fact that our music is very appreciated in
our native country too.
What can we expect of Godyva in the near future?
Lady Godyva: We will release the new video of
Broken Angel that we are realizing very soon. We will
also go on tour: it will happen in spring 2007 and then
we are also working on a new album for some time now...
I cannot say more haha, I have already said more than
enough!
Thanks a lot for answering the questions. If you have
some final words to add, please do it here.
Lady Godyva: Thank you for this interview. We can
only say that Godyva is ready for everything and they is
a lot ready to explode! Good night to everyone and see
you next time. Ciao!
