First of all, please
introduce your band to the readers.
Pierre (guitars, vocals, machines): Ok… Hypnosis
was formed back in 1993, but I would say that the real
start was in 1996, with the reunion of the actual line-up,
Cindy (guitar/vocals), Patrice (bass) and myself, Pierre
(guitar/vocals/machines)… up to now we have released 4
albums, « Shadoworld » in 1999 on Black Lotus Records, «
Humanoid » in 2001 on Sacral Productions, « Cyber Death
» in 2004 on Crash Music and the new one « Seeds Of Fate
» in 2006 in cooperation with a young french label, Bent
Records.
According to the biography, it took you about three
years to get this band really started. What happened in
those three years? And how did things get started for
Hypnosis anyway?
Pierre: In fact, when I founded the band in 1993,
I didn’ t know anything except the fact that I wanted to
play some Death-Metal music !!! lol… These years were
necessary for us (Cindy & I) to start learning how to
compose, rehearse, record a demo, etc…
When the band splitted in 95, we decided to continue
working together with a drum machine. We kept the name
of Hypnosis cause we liked it a lot !!! Patrice joined
us some months later and so the story could start for
real !!!
How would you describe your music? And what are your
main influences?
Pierre: We named our music « hybrid death-metal
», that means for us a blend of death-metal guitar riffs
and typical growls with elements such as drums
programming, samples, keyboards, female voices, etc…
Our influences run from heavy, thrash and typical death-metal
from the early 90’s to rock and pop music, modern metal,
etc… we all listen some diffferent things !!!
Your new album came out this year and recieved good
ratings on our webzine. But, what do you think of the
album yourself?
Pierre: We’re very satisfied with this new album.
We like the new songs a lot and the production is also
far better from our previous releases !!! I would say
this album is a kind of new start for us, we really want
to play these new songs on stage everywhere !!!!
What were the other replies (by press, public) on the
album so far?
Pierre: « Seeds Of Fate » has got a lot of very
positive reviews in the french-metal medias, even in the
most important magazines, and we’re very happy about
that !!! We did also a lot of gigs for the release of
this album and we felt that the public reaction is far
better than for our previous releases !!!!
We’re now trying to promote this album in the rest of
the world and we really would like to plan a small
european tour for spring 2007 !!!
What is in your opinion the best track of the album
and why?
Pierre: I really don’t know… I like every song of
this album !!! … And the proof is that we didn’t succeed
to make a choice for the songs we’d play on stage, so we
finally decided to play the whole stuff hahahaha!
Between your debut album "Shadoworld" and this new "Seeds
Of Fate" record lays seven years. What are in your
opinion the major changes and progressions Hypnosis have
made?
Pierre: I would say that each recording is a step
forward in our evolution… Each album is different from
the others and reflects the things we had in mind when
we composed it !!! Of course I think we have improved
our way to work together, we have now a better sound,
better production, as every band working together for 10
years, don’t you think? Hahaha!
I would say that Hypnosis is a band in constant
evolution, mutation, we really want to offer something
different with each release !!!
One thing that got me noticed is the fact that all
the four albums that Hypnosis released so far are
released on different labels. What is the story behind
this fact? Had some arguements, or did those labels just
wanted to do a one-album contract?
Pierre: Things did not hapenned as we would have
wanted, and each time we decided to stop cooperation
with these labels for different reasons… but now we’re
trying to not think about the past anymore, to look
forward… we have produced « Seeds Of Fate » by
ourselves, and signed a promotion/distribution deal with
Bent Records that did a great job to promote this album
in France and Belgium !!! Now we’re thinking about
different possibilities to release this album in the
rest of the world…
To promote this album you did various live shows in
France already. Could you describe what you intent to
give to the audience when you hit the stages? And how
were those gigs anyway?
Pierre: I would say that, even if we play without
drummer, we try to bring on stage all the energy that a
metal gig must have !!! We try to transcribe the
feelings of the songs, to bring some people some
pleasure ans energy, just try to share our passion for
this music… we really want to be the more honest
possible in fact !!! We don’t play a game, this band is
the most important thing for us and we love playing live
shows !!!
What can we expect of Hypnosis in the near future?
Pierre: We’re currently working on some shows for
the beginning of next year. We would also like a lot to
plan a kind of « european tour » for April 2007, as we
would like to make « Seeds Of Fate » distributed
worlwide in the same time !!! And meanwhile we have just
started to work on new songs for the next album, but
it’s not time yet to talk about that !! lol
