First of all, please introduce your band to the readers.
Val (guitars): MASTERLAST is a female fronted Heavy/Industrial Metal band, that was founded in 2002 by Swiss guitarist Val Glauser and Israeli singer Lizza Hasan in New York. Other members are C-Drike on Programming, Will Valentine on Bass, and John Macaluso played drums on our new album “Mastery Of Self”. The band was signed in 2005 by Swedish indie label Escapi Music.

How did things get started?
Val: Back in 2002,Val had a few songs written and wanted to collaborate with vocalist friend Lizza. The result was great and the two girls decided to keep on writing more songs together. Soon after programmer C-Drike joined the team, adding his computer generated identity. A first EP called “Think of the day” was recorded in 2004, and this record lead to the signature with the label Escapi Music.

Why have you picked this particular name for it?
Val: Lizza thought of the name MASTERLAST, felt it sounded powerful, and coresponded to our identity. We adopted it quite naturally. It stands basically for: no more masters, think for yourself.

How would you describe your music? And what are your main influences?
Val: We mix up different styles of music, which is a reflection of our different musical backgrounds. The main form is really heavy, due among other things to Lizza’s vocal and the guitar riffs, but also have elements of Pop music in the melodies and songwriting, tribal percussions and electronic programming.

Your latest album received various good replies of press all over the world. How do you look upon the album yourself? And did you expect these good responses?
Val: We are proud of the album, we put a lot of passion and work in the writing and recording. We tried to come up with an album that would be interesting from beginning to end, with no worthless tracks and we feel we’ve achieved that result.
About the press, you can’t expect everybody to love your work so we are always pleased to hear about good reviews.

How did the audience reply on your album so far?
Val: People really dig the uniqueness of the music and the grooves. They are also appreciating that we write songs.

What is in your opinion the best song of the album, and why?
Val: Its’ different for every band member, but it seems I ache is an obvious choice because it really features best all the elements that make the Masterlast’ identity. Heavy vocals, catchy guitar riff, drum loop programming and melodic chorus.

Masterlast operates under a certain image. How important is image for a band like Masterlast?
Val: We are just ourselves, but the fact that the band is led by women is not yet very common and might add a bit of spice to the image. But it just happened that away and was never calculated. We are musicians first and foremost.

The music you make could fit well in a powerful live performance. What can a stranger expect when he visits a live show of Masterlast?
Val: Entertainment. Lots of energy, grooves to dance to, great female and male musicians... And more importantly good music. A great time basically!

What can we expect of Masterlast in the near future?
Val: You can expect to see us live! All dates will be posted on our website www.masterlast.net or on our myspace page at www.myspace.com/masterlast
