First of all, please introduce your band/project to the readers.
Morten (vocals, keys, programming): The band is actually a lot more than 10 years old. We met in high school and found out that both of us were music fanatics and maniacs. Later on we tried to create a band along with two other guys……..well let’s say this nice: it wasn’t exactly radio material. Anyway, the band was called Mute Servant and we actually managed to create 4 songs (these songs are well hidden on a DAT tape somewhere).
Kristian (guitar, bass, keys): The band was never really discussed or taken into consideration after we closed it. We both went on evolving musically – Kristian in Manticora and Morten with his band, back then, called “Sleeping with the Fish” and even later on in other rock/techno/industrial projects.

How did things get started?
Morten: An evening, around 6-8 months ago, we spoke on the phone and agreed upon starting the creation of some music again. Kristian told me that he had created a track on which he wanted me to sing – it came out as “Soulless”. It was only obvious after that evening that the band was a re-union of Mute Servant.

Why have you picked this particular name for it?
Morten: The name is, in fact, a direct translation of the Danish word for a “coat hanger” – the Danish word is “stumtjener”. “Stum” in English is “Mute” and “tjener” is “Servant”. We thought it was great fun to have a band named that way – especially when the translation was so direct and wrong…….in the terms of English.

How would you describe your music? And what are your main influences?
Morten: The music is a half´n´half mixture of our own musical interests – Kristian being the main heavy metal force and me the industrial/techno one. Our influences therefore vary a lot, from bands like Nevermore and Tool to Skinny Puppy. So the music, naturally, is a mixture of the two – a kind of industrial metal – that’s how we ourselves refer to it, anyway.

You currently have four songs online on MySpace: Eye See, Panic, Soulless and Anymore. Could you say a few words about them?
Morten: First things first: “Eye see” and “Anymore” are both new songs. Panic and Soulless are “old” ones. If one takes a closer listen to our tracks starting with “Soulless” and ending with “Eye see” he or she will hear the obvious progression. We are currently in a state where we need to find ourselves musically. Eye see and Anymore are a perfect example of that fact……..we try things out and if it works we use it……..Soulless was our first track and therefore the most finished track from the beginning……like…..”we knew what we wanted to try out”………and luckily it worked. Panic is a more progressive and experimental track. A lot of things happen in a very short period of time.
Kristian: Lyrically we try to keep things combined and with a red line throughout all tracks – It’ s a sad story of a girl, introduced in “Soulless”, who sucks out all strength of her surroundings. We may find ourselves in another world (we haven’t really decided yet), as we say all the time: keep it dark – keep it evil……he he. Anyway the plan is to learn about this girl throughout the tracks.

How did the people reply on those songs? Had any interesting comments so far?
Morten: People have generally been very positive when they comment our songs – we‘ve had a lot of great comments so far and since Myspace is our only promotional media these comments are great for us. Most visitors seem to notice our sound as the first thing…….I like that (since I’m the producer).

You are from Denmark. Denmark isn't really known for its industrial scene. How is the industrial scene over there? How do Danish people look upon industrial metal?
Morten: Well, Denmark is a small country and people; as far as I am concerned are mostly occupied listening to a lot of commercial rock and poor pop music.
Kristian: There are crowds out there who listen to industrial and metal, but it´s the minority I´m afraid, very unlike Germany, England – etc.

What are your other main interests in life next to music?
Morten: Next to music – which takes up a lot of our spare time - we both have a great interest in computers and all other spare moments are spend with family and friends.
Kristian: Other than that we both have “normal” jobs – Kristian is a lab technician and I work as a teacher.

What can we expect of Mute Servant in the near future?
Morten: Maybe it is getting harder….you never know, we are only just now started to explore the music together as a group, maybe more industrial…..we’ll see.

Ok, the interview ends here, thanks a lot for your time. If you have something to add, you can do it here.
Kristian: Thanks a lot for the interview. Stay muted? (he he………no, I can’t come up with anything hahaha).
