First of all, please
introduce your band to the readers.
Terrodrown is an ambient industrial black metal band
created in 2005 in the West of France. It is composed by
Herbst (bass and lyrics), Mr Safe Destruct (guitar and
samples) and P.N (vocals, programming and keyboards).
How did things get started with this band? And what
gave you the idea to mix industrial black metal with
ambient?
P.N and Herbst were playing in an anonymous symphonic
black metal band. After the split of this one, they
decided to continue doing music together. They called
their friend Mr Safe Destruct, who was playing at this
moment in an electro industrial metal band, to join them.
Our aim was to put out the aggressiveness of black
metal, the martial of industrial music and the
atmospheric aspect of ambient music to create something
as cold as possible.
Why have you picked this particular name for it?
Terrodrown is a neologism created with the association
of the contraction of the noun of terror, and the verb
to drown. You can understand this name as to drown into
terror.
How would you describe your music? And what are your
main influences?
Our music is a mix between black metal, industrial and
ambient music. We don’t try to be categorized in a kind
of music.
Our main influences are metal bands like Blut Aus Nord,
Mayhem, Spektr, Samael but also ambient project like
Raison d’être or Melek-tha.
Your 'Ruined Nation' demo came out this year, and
received good opinions by the press. But, what do you
think of the demo yourself? And did you expect this good
feedback?
When we came out this first demo, we didn’t expect
anything. Lot of demos come out every day and it is hard
to attract attention in a saturated “market”. We knew
that we have defaults: the sound of the guitars is not
very good, the mix and the mastering are not perfect,
some riffs are too repetitive, drum sound is too
synthetic… That’s why we are very surprising to receive
this good feedback. Although the reviews were positive,
they mention how to improve it. That was we wished and
the reviewers did it!
Our aim was also to distribute it a lot to show music
that we consider as quite personal, and to receive
feedback which could help us to progress.
What other replies did you receive, by the audience
for example, on your demo?
Feedback from the audience was good too.
I couldn't find a live section on your website. Do
you play live shows? If yes, what could we expect of a
live show, and if no, what's the reason for it?
We don’t play live shows and we don’t want it for
several reasons. We don’t live in the same city, so it
is difficult for us playing together. That’s why we have
always decided to stay a studio project. Also, if we
play in live, we could have session musicians, but for
us, Terrodrown is only us and nothing more. Then, in our
region, there is not a lot of metalheads (except if you
consider 15- year- old marylin manson’ fans like that !)
and we don’t want to play in live for this kind of
people!
What can we expect of Terrodrown in the future?
You will find us In a compilation called Black Storm at
the end of this year with other French bands like
Otargos, Lex Talionis, Artefact…
We are also working on our next demo and we’ll try to
improve our music.
Ok, the interview ends here, thanks a lot for your
