First of all, could you
give us a short introduction of Hackmesser?
Hackmesser is a nuclear rocket, shot out of a big cannon
based on a huge battleship, rushing towards you! With
our rhytms and lyrics we want to make people wake up,
understand their deep inside fears, and be strong to
face them. Hackmesser is about love, our love to people,
and love in it's extreme forms!
Why was Hackmesser formed, and how did things get
started? And after that, why did you pick this bandname?
Hackmesser was formed as a coverband, but during
repetitions we made good friends and created some
excellent songs, so we decided to rock on. Then things
started very strange.. Just after the Rammstein tour in
Russia, Konstantin decided that he has something to say
to the audience by using music. On music forums he found
a guitarist, a drummer and a keyboard player. For the
vocalists job, he asked his old good friend Michael.
First repetition went awful. We still don't know how we
managed to not break eachothers instruments on
eachothers head! But after some time we realized that we
did sound good, feel good and look good and that we were
ready to rock some Moscow clubs! So on step at the time,
after series of concerts, we started adding self-made
powerful pyrotechnic, creating our special style in
costumes and movements... we're coming to fire up your
gloomy life!
What are your main influences?
Certainly Rammstein, Oomph! and Metallica. When we
started our main reference was Rammstein. Each of the
bandmembers bring special spice in our sound. Our
drummer likes metal while both guitarists like different
kinds of music (from ska-punk to Queen, etc.). Most of
music was written by Konstantin Prockofiev. But when he
brings his material to the studio, each member makes
proposals, start arguing and in the end the song is much
different from the original one. There is only one thing
that needs no discussions - our love and respect to
Rammstein. That is what unites us and let us understand
eachother. For us, they are something like parents. Hard
to explain...
Then, after exploring more German music like Oomph!,
Megaherz and others, we have adopted it as our main
style: the repeating guitar riffs, groovy drums, leading
synths and 'simple' song structure. German rock is
different from English or American, you can feel it in a
single moment, it's a very fresh sound and an experience
for us... and new field for work!
How would you describe your music?
We call our music EEIMR - East European Industrial March
Rock (or in russian VEIMR - Vostochno-Evropeiskiy
Industrialniy Marschirovochniy Rock). This name
represents the style the most: East European means that
it strongly influenced by Russian and Slavonic musical
culture. Industrial March Rock describes the power of
rhytm that we try to put in it.
You currently have a three track EP out, and it got a
nice review on our zine. What do you think of it
yourself?
Well, we are very proud of our EP. We have achieved
quite a punchy sound. The EP was planned a bit
different, with a bit different sound and content. It
was very complicated to form the EP for us. We have lots
of songs and we love them all very much.
Which of the three songs is the best one in your
opinion, and why?
Invalid. We created this tune fast and each time we play
it, listen to it, or play it live it passes away so
quickly that you always want more of it! Hard to
explain..it's love! Hard question though, we love all
our songs, but love is love, you know...
How do other people/press/etc. reply on your music?
People like us! If we speak about live shows - people
shake our hands and always come again bringing friend to
see the show and hear head crushing sounds. Every single
club likes us a lot too. But to tell the truth, in
Russia this style of music is not very welcome. Russian
producers hearing our music ask us to play softer and
less loud... we can't afford that! They don't want to
change the situation in Russian music. Today it's
presented in not very impressive pop bands. On the other
side, we recieve veeeeery positive and huge feedback
from such international sites as myspace.com! Most of
the people don't even understand what we are singing
about, but the powerful forms of our music and show
pleases them a lot!
You created the band because you wanted to make music
thats able to explode stadiums. Please explain us how
your live show really looks like then.
At the first step we made music that able to explode
stadiums. Then we made things that were able to explode
stadiums without any music. We think about our show very
well, our audience can listen to our story by their
ears, but they can watch it too - it is a big advantage
of rock performance and we use it. Concert suits,
pyrotechnics and expressive, emotional action on stage
is our weapon. It looks easy, but every time we think
about the way we will use it in concrete places and on
concrete stages to do it best and receive maximum
feedback.
Other Russian bands like Xe-None, Golden Age and
Digimortal already showed quite some potential. How is
the scene in Russia?
There are many bands in Russia playing different kinds
of industrial, some are more and some are less talented,
but there is no connection between them and their fans,
like in punk or metal styles. Maybe it's connected with
an absence of a wide hearing audience... The same bands
play on metal, gothic,cyber/dance/EBM parties and
industrial parties caused sometimes, for example
'Digital Connectivity' organized by Digimortal and us,
where we played too, but no industrial scene appeared at
this time in common. So I think industrial bands feel
themselves a little bit lost.
What can we expect of your band in the near future?
Surely new songs, new shows with new blasting
pyrotechnics and bla bla bla! To tell you the truth, we
are currently rushing to release our first album! I
think you haven't heard anything like it! And then,
certainly a world tour to unite people and make them
strong all over this crazy world!
The interview ends here, thanks a lot for your time.
If you have something to add, you can do it here.
Group Hackmesser would like to thank all of it's
audience and wish them to keep fire in their hearts
plazma hot! Be strong.
