First of all, could you
give us a short introduction of your band?
Lionel: The band was formed in 1998 with my
brother Loïc with the guitar and rhythms, and myself
(lionel with bass and scream). After many gigs, 2 albums:
"Bitterness, to despair and cyniscism" (2001) and "Surgical
ep" (2002), 1 ep and several collaborations, Loïc
decided to take distance with the music. He was replaced
by Alex at guitar, and my other brother, Nico took the
rhythms. Since 2002 we did many gigs, 1 album: "Happy
days" in 2005, 4 maxis, 1 live and several compilations
Does the bandname have any special meaning, and why
did you pick it?
Lionel: It had a special significance, at the
beginning, for Loïc and me, we never too much explained
it to people, that maintains the mystery.... And people
have their own idea of what that could want to say... «

What are your main influences?
Lionel: At the beginning, it was clearly Godflesh,
Unsane, Sonic Youth, Killing Joke, Portobello Bones and
Sleeppers. Since the arrival of Nico and Alex, other
musical sensitivities were added. I think that one has
nevertheless our own sound, our alchemy with us, one has
to digest our influences for a long time. We draw from
the punk one, hip hop, industrial, metal, stoner, noise....
We mix all that to realize a piece. We do not set limits
How would you describe your music?
Lionel: Difficult to say. It is an invitation to
be plunged in a world dark, melody, heavy, hypnotic and
full with madness, loan of saturation.
You already have quite a lot releases out. Normally
it takes about 2 years for a band to release new stuff.
How come you released so many stuff already?
Lionel: And yet we are rather slow to compose,
the fact that we live far from the ones of the others
slowed down us a little. But today one starts to better
reorganize. We have always full with projects in head,
one proposes to us to take part in compils, friends make
us remixes, we are going to made a 7 inches for Noise
Records, and we prepare the 4th album for our 10 years.
One left much discs, it is with the fact that today we
are on our own label P.O.G.O. and this since the whole
beginning. We leave our discs when one wants and one
does not deprive oneself any. Today one would like well
that another label is occupied of us to leave and us
promote in order to devote itself only on the musical
aspect and the concerts.
What are in your opinion the major progresses that
have been made from the first until the latest releases?
Lionel: The first album was in big part
instrumental, with the rhythmic ones which left us much
freedom of improvisation. From 2nd LP until today we
work on rhythmic the very square ones with more breaks
and others. We evolved much while keeping our sound and
the same spirit.
What is the message you try to spread lyrically?
Lionel: We wrote our texts before very for us
even, that speaks about suffering physical, mental, of
ecology, imaginary but some share they are positive
texts all the same.... We write in evasive ways which
can take several directions near the listener, who can
thus have his own idea.
How important is the internet for a band like
[P.U.T]?
Lionel: I still am very mitigated on "the
capacity of Internet" in general. But it is true that
via Myspace, we have find bands with which we have had
good times, we have establish maby ontacts with people
and it true, is also found concerts plans to assemble
the current Tour. We spend less money to send albums by
the post office... without speaking about the saving of
time! And that enables us to have more people who listen
to us and so much better.
What can a stranger expect when he visits a live show
of your band?
Lionel: To be destabilized I hope, it is on scene
that we explode, where we give all, it more is raw,
dark, mad and extreme
What is the most unforgeteable thing for you that you
experienced with the band?
Lionel: We have many very good memories, that it
is on scene or in studio, each experiment, good or bad,
is important for us. One of our best gig was the only
time where with have play with two guitarists, Alex and
Loïc, this gig was totaly crazy !!!!
What can we expect of [P.U.T] in the near future?
Lionel: How I mentioned it above, much of
participation in compilations, one 7inch with 2 new
sons, an album for the next year and of course, many
concerts!
