First of all, could you
give us a short introduction of Rukia?
Gabriel (vocals): People usually write down some
philosophic stuff about their bands when they have to
answer these kind of questions, but I will just
introduce ourselves by saying that we are an electronic/gothic/
hard rock band from Poland.
Why did you pick this bandname? Has it any special
meaning?
Gabriel: Rukia is a female Japanese name. We
found it in some anime and thought it was very beautiful.
How did things get started?
Gabriel: Well, highschool was finished for me, so
suddenly I was having a lot of free time. I already had
a solo project, but I've always wanted to be able to
play live shows as well, with a full band. So, I asked
some friends if they wanted to join me, which they did,
and Rukia was born.
What are your main influences?
Gabriel: We are influenced by bands like AFI, The
Cure, Cradle of Filth and many J-rock bands.
How would you describe your music?
Gabriel: We love to call this style 'ass
kicking'.
Your first release is called 'Seishin Assault'. What
can people who blindly buy it expect of it?
Gabriel: Well, its different... different from
almost everything you have heard before. It's very fresh
and original music, very energetic but melodic. The
little bad sides of the release are the amount of tracks
(only six) and, to be honest, the recording quality
isn't the best (it's a home recording).
You are very much influenced by anything that's
Japanese. What's so special about the Japanese culture,
etc.?
Gabriel: It's all about the language actually...
we think it's very cool.
How is the Polish scene? Any fanbase over there?
Gabriel: The Polish scene is dominated by punk
bands, death metal bands and nu-metal bands. In other
words - it sucks. All the bands are more or less the
same, playing stuff like KoRn or Vader but worse. Only a
few people bought our CD so far, but I belive things
will get better after some live preformances of Rukia.
What can we expect of Rukia in the near future?
Gabriel: Gigs! We will be performing live on some
festivals in Poland. Furthermore, we're planning to
release some new stuff too, so don't forget to check our
website from time to time.
The interview ends here, thanks a lot for your time.
If you have something to add, you can do it here.
Gabriel: First of all - thank you, Gerardo, so
much for giving us the space and opportunity to share
our words with the people. And a last message to the
fans - love me.
