First of all, please introduce your band to the
readers.
Sadomachine: Violent work of art consists of :
Magnus Karlsson [sadomachine]: Vocals, Lyrics,
Programming
Viktor Eng [evilstein]: Bass
Anders Gyllensten [goldenstone]: Guitar
Tobias Eng [D.O.G]: Guitar , vocals and lyrics
Maria Simonsson - Synths and machines
How did things get started with the band?
Sadomachine: It all started in 1994 when the band
that Tobias and Viktor played in needed a new guitar
player. They actually got two new guitar players and
decided to change the style of music. This band became
very different from the old rock`n roll band so the name
was also changed.
Why did you pick this bandname?
Sadomachine: One of the early songs was called
something like "violent artwork" and when the question
of the new bandname came up, it was quite easy to choose
the new one.
What are your main influences?
Sadomachine: In the beginning I guess it was
bands like Pantera, Fear factory and Misery loves Co.,
but nowadays we don`t have any obvious influences, we
mainly get inspiration from different genres of music
such as Trance, synth, country and a bunch of other
stuff, then we try to coorporate that into our music.
How would you describe your music?
I guess the back of our T-shirts says it all..... FULL
METAL INDUSTRY!
Your CD called "Automated Species" came out little
time ago. Why should people buy this album?
Sadomachine: If you are tired of all the bullshit
mainstream music out there, Automated Species is a good
alternative, with a quite unique style of aggressive
industrial metal.
You're existing for quite some time already. What are
in your opinion the major improvements you made since
the first years of existence?
Sadomachine: Lots of things actually, the most
obvious must be that we are a hardcore industrial metal
band now, and not that metal band with some samples in
the background. Everyone in the band has evolved quite a
bit as musicians and songwriters over the years, and we
finally found someone to handle the synths and machinery
both on and offstage.
What can someone who blindly visits a live show of
Violent Work Of Art expect?
Sadomachine: Madness...., hopefully a controlled
one, and lots of energy. Programmed drums mixed with
heavy guitars, loads of synths and growling vocals is
just a great experience.
What's your look upon the metal scene in Sweden?
Sadomachine: It`s awesome, for being such a small
country we have an enormous amount of great metal acts
here.. Sadly we don`t have that many places to play
live, and Swedish media seems to ignore the fact that
Sweden is one of the world`s leading metal nations.
What can we expect of Violent Work Of Art in the near
future?
Sadomachine: Hopefully we will get our asses out
on some kind of mini tour soon, I don`t know when or
where but we`re working on it. We really could need some
help with setting up gigs in England and Germany though.
And there`s a lot of new material being written as we
speak. Just keep an eye on our website, or our Myspace
site for new songs....
The interview ends here, thanks a lot for your time.
If you have something to add, the final words are all
yours.
Sadomachine: This might be a good opportunity to
say thanx to our fans who have supported us through the
years, Stay violent and keep spreading the word.
