First of all, could you introduce your band to the Industrialized Metal Webzine readers?
We are Black Light Discipline, the banner bearers of Finnish electro-metal!

How did things get started, and why did you pick this bandname?
BLD got started in 2005 after playing a gig of cover songs in silly costumes with an additional guitarist. Janne got through with his own agenda and the band began taking shape. The name, Black Light Discipline, came up later and was somewhat loosely based on the lighting in our practice room.

How would you describe your music, and what are your main influences?
Black Light Discipline plays electro-industrial/alternative metal with well-rounded dosage of groovy melodies and straight forward pounding. Influences vary with every member, though there are similarities. Genres from ebm to metal are well represented. To mention some influences: Nine Inch Nails, Ulver, David Bowie, Rammstein etc. Generally speaking any well made music can provide influences even though it's not actively listened.

How do you usually create your songs?
BLD is about careful consideration more than just letting go. The basic composition is usually done by Janne. Afterwards Antti, Toni, Veikka and Iiro introduce their own ideas on their instruments which then mold the song towards its ready form.

Your latest album, 'Empire', had a good review on our webzine. What do you think of the album yourself? How were the replies you recieved so far?
Reviews have been a real mixture of good and bad. This style of music is far from mainstream in Finland so it's easy to categorize our music poorly. We think the record is a killer one and we are very happy about a debut this good.

What is, in your opinion, the best track of that album, and why?
"For all you heavy hearted" because of its pounding heaviness and melancholic mood. It's a really tight and fleshy opening song.

You also recorded a video for 'Tides'. Why exactly did you pick this song? And are you satisfied with the outcome of it?
The outcome couldn't have been better. We had a killer team in the making and it turned out a lot better that we'd imagined. Tides is a good mixture of different sounds in our music so it represents BLDs diversity quite well. It's also a pretty straight-forward song, that's easy to approach by anyone listening even a bit heavier stuff.

What's the message you try to spread lyrically?
There's no message. BLD is not about preaching. Lyrics are more often just manifesting the writers own contemplation on a subject at that time. The contents vary a lot from dreams to universal dilemmas, but if someone finds them somehow provocative or inspiring, that's just a bonus. A mark of a well made lyric in our point of view.

What can a stranger expect when he visits a live show of your band?
Some straight forward aggressive performing with everyone giving all they've got.

Finland has quite a few killer industrial metal acts such as Scorngrain, Turmion Kätilöt and The Republic of Desire. How is the scene over there?
We think it's evolving all the time. For example Turmion Kätilöt has really managed to make industrial metal more known to Finnish audiences. We'd like to spread this Finnish electro-industrial representation outside Finland's borders and start gigging in other countries also.

What are, next to music, your other passions in life?
The built environment and other cultures.

What can we expect of Black Light Discipline in the near future?
Lots of gigs and converting people into electro-metal. We are interested to make another video and album in the future and to continue working in co-operation with such artist as Proteus and Turmion Kätilöt.

The interview ends here, thanks a lot for your time. If you have any final words to share, please do so.
Thank you, you'll be hearing more of us in the near future.
