First of all
- could you give our readers a short introduction
about your band?
Hello, I was the main composer in the band Nocturnal
Fears and wanted to go higher in the experimentation
in music. Several hillnesses make me also think
of what to do in music and after more than a
year of getting better and making songs I consider
that some songs won't be Nocturnal Fears songs
but for a new project. I was playing less the
guitar and not take this instrument to built
songs. After that step by step I also start
working with Fruity Loops and just find a new
way of making songs... A way with infite direction
to go ...So little by little I reached 38 songs
made and decided to make hear thoses songs just
on the Low Frequencies website than I 've discovered
some bands and guys making songs in the same
way I like to do it ...
A practical question now - why did you pick
this bandname?
When I've started Nocturnal Fears (in 1992)
we were the lowest band at that time: we were
tuned in A low ... so when this idea of this band
came out I want to go "Deeper and Deeper"
and tune my six strings in G .. with such tuning
I can't call this band High Frequencies ;)...and
I definitly like the way it sound haha.
How did things get started - and how would
you describe your music?
Well as I've said before it was nearly an accident
in fact.. Just I like to go further in
the way of making music and to do it without any
limits... Even at the beginning I was
also fed up with the use of the name "
Industrial": not all bands who said / call
themselves an industrial band should have this
genre name...
My music came just in my state of mind when
I was making it ...but I can say it's a mix between
Drum and Bass and Industrial Metal with lots of
dark atmospheres.
What are your main influences?
My main influence is my life - frustrations,
angers, things in life in fact... Some people
will say it's a cliche but for me it isn't...This
album is more than a year and a half of my life
...
Your new album 'The Styx' got a good review
on our webzine. What do you think of the album
yourself?
Yes it's a really good review. I'm very proud
of it, and sometime don't know why/how I've
made this or that in the cd haha... I've recorded
things that's just came through my mind... really
can't do 'em once more... I'm also happy with
the artwork... this album is really me!
What would you consider to be the best track
on the release and why?
I have no best track on the cd ..one day it'll
be that, few hours later another one, etc. - just because
it reminds me to things that were happening when the
song came into my head...
One track that definitely jumped out of there
was the 18 minute long 'In The Depths Of Madness'.
Why did you decide to put such a long track
right in the middle of your album?
The reason is I want people to hear the track
like a little story.. I like to think some people
will hear the song and don't think of the other
things they had to deal with... just be in my
head for 18 minutes... When I started the
song I was really angry and agressive, then came
some good news ( the song is getting cool ...)
then another bad thing and we're back in violence
...
One more practical question - how do you
pick the titles for your songs? I see some dark
titles in there, but as well a few peoples names...?
I just listen to the song many times and then
the title comes by itself... For the name of the peoples
it's because they take part of my life in
some way, some days...
The main focus of Low Frequencies seems to
be the internet, with a lot of promotion via
MySpace, Twitter, Soundcloud, etc. Why did you
decide to do a physical CD release after all?
That 's a good question... About the promotion
I think it's just the thing to do for a band
now, and believe me it's a lot better than
before with paper webzines... You can get good
exposure now...even in a Dutch webzine haha! At
the beginning I didn't know if I was going to make a cd
but in the end I decided to do a physical
cd just because nowadays you can sell it - not
at a big price but still - the sound is good on it and
even if your computer crashes you can still listen
to the music. I think MySpace is a good way
to start to make your band a little known, you
can find people who make and listen the same
music as you do so that's cool... After that I heard
about Twitter... so I looked at it and found some ways
to use it for some other websites first and then for
me also. Surfing a lot on MySpace has made
me curious about Soundcloud, so I've checked
it and the player quality is really better than lots
of others... that's why I've put my songs there too.
Then I discovered lots of communities of
musicians on it and decided to be active
also on there. I'm also on facebook... why?
Because it's not the same people on there that are on
MySpace. I've met lots of old friends there
who don't have MySpace accounts.
Will Low Frequencies remain a studio project
or do you have some plans to go live with it
as well already?
I haven't find a way which makes me happy to
play Low Frequencies live... I'll try to make
something special if I find a way to do it - if I succeed then
sure I'll make it to the stage... but for now my solution is just to
take my computer and guitar to a show and let
the music come out of the computer... I don't
want this, so I'll think for this in the near
future. Until then I just like to know people have a
good time listening to the cd ;)
What are your views on the music scene in
France?
To be honest it's really strange... lots of
good bands, but people are very close minded.
If you like this kind of music then you
can't like that other one... That's stupid! I listen
to nearly every type of music, there's good
songs in every style! Another thing is that
people are never happy today - when there's
no show in a club they're complaining about it
and when there's lots of time no one came to
see the band...
What are next to music your other passions
in life?
The internet ... building websites, thinking
about my next album ...watching dvds (from
Americain Pie to Tarantino's movies)...
What
can we expect of Low Frequencies in the near
future? There has been a rumour about a new
track appearing on the next F**k Em All release...
;-)
A rumour?? never heard of this lol ...The anwer
is "yes!!!"
and I'm so proud of it! And for the rest I´m
hopping to get more good reviews and reactions
(thanks Alec Empire once more). And maybe
other tracks being mastered by my friend
nÎm... to make argggggggggg don't know
yet ...cd .. mcd . . digital release ...we'll
see...
The
interview ends here, thanks for your time. Got
any final words to share with us?
Listen to my nightmare called "The Styx"...
Thanks
To Industrialized Metal for my first review
and interview...
