Children of 9 is a Dutch band from the town of Leeuwarden, that combines ideas from the various backgrounds of its members: dance, metal, progressive rock and classical music are melted into a sound that’s quite hard to categorize. One of the main goals of the band is the creation of emotional, authentic music with true feelings and raw edges. The band consists of Robin van de Jagt (vocals/lyrics/beats), Dennis van Gemert (synths), Douwe Dijkstra (guitar/vocals) and Reina van der Meer (violin/vocals). The foundation for the group was laid in 2007 when Robin van de Jagt, up until then a DJ, dubbed about his musical direction. He started combining ideas from his former tracks with guitar riffs, synths, electric violin and vocals into heavy songs. By writing out his name in a numerical translation Robin came up with the number 9. Because of the personal touch and the hard work to create the music, he called his songs his children. ‘Children of 9’ as a name is a logical contraction of these two findings. Soon musicians were found for this special formation and today Children of 9 is a solid band, with personal and creative input from each individual member.
