Could you provide us some basic info about your band?
The name of this Italian band/project is Symptoms,
because it started in 2006 as a concept about illness
and indisposition. Being influenced by Devin townsend,
Godflesh, Jesu, Ulver and by a lot of grindcore/death
metal bands, the music style is a mix of ambient,
industrial, death metal, black metal, shoegaze, and
maybe even pop. The main aim is to create good "music
for the mind". The main weak point is that my English
sucks.
Why did you exactly pick this track to appear on the
compilation?
I think because it's a good song and because it shows a
side of what we want to create in music: melody (not
Swedish-core lame overdone melodies), violence,
atmosphere. This song has many of these elements.
How important is and has the internet been for your
band?
It has been very important, without the internet no one
would know us (and I mean, REALLY no one!). Plus, it
allows you to organize shows and keep in contact with
other bands without signing to a label or other stuff.
Many bands suffer for the lack of fans buying their
albums, but I think that real fans will ever support.
What are the views upon the local music industry in
your native country?
It sucks. If you are a pop emo band then you can be
lucky, but for metalheads it's harder. The better thing
may be to sign for a small label to promote you, but for
the moment I prefer to self produce my music and to
promote it by the internet.
And what about the rest of the world?
I often see bands which musically suck but which have a
great production (they have the money!) getting praised
and signing with a label... Why? Because there is who
buys their album. It's all about money, as always.
Fortunately, you can discover by the internet really
good bands and support them. Until now, I've never found
a (major) label really interested in helping good bands
in coming out from the underground... if you find one
tell me, please!
How do you see the role of the record labels in the
music industry in about 10 years?
Thanks to the internet, labels are slowly becoming
useless... I don't think they will really disappear, but
I don't think bands and fans trust labels like they did
before.
What are your opinions on the Industrialized Metal
Webzine?
It rules! I discovered many excellent bands on their
pages and I really appreciate their promotional purpose.
It is the first website really interested in Industrial
Metal as it should be!
Do you have some final words to add?
I'm really glad to join this compilation. I worked hard
on my music, and I hope you'll enjoy it, that would be
the greatest repayment to me.
