Artist: RAISM
Album: Aesthetic Terrorism
Year: 1997

Many of you will probably have something like: “Raism? WTF is Raism?”. When I say that Raism is ex-Diabolos Rising probably not many of you will know what/who/where I am talking about. Well, a short introduction then. Raism exists of Mika Luttinen (Impaled Nazarene and more) on vocals and George Zaharopoulos (Necromantia and more) on guitars and sampling stuff. While Diabolos Rising was some kickass industrial black metal, these guys decided to leave the black metal behind and concentrate more and more on electro and techno, with a little touch of the metal side added. Aesthetic Terrorism is one of the two albums released by this band on Kron-H, which is a sub division of Osmose Productions.

First of all, I think this album will fit more the EBM/gothic fans than the industrial metal fans. The techno beats are thrown into your ears with some hyperactive vocals, most of the time accompanied by a not too loud distortion guitar. But techno beats is not the only point of view on industrial of these guys. ‘G.- Carnivorous Commercial Version’ has a big (and loud) touch of the hardstyle world, while ‘Survival Of The Fittest Scum’ can be stuffed in the category dance metal (Unk!, Reel and more). ‘S.O.T.F.S.- Destructive Club Version’ sounds almost like happy hardcore, while ‘Politically Incorrect (Non P.C.)’ even reminds me to the Red Hot Chili Peppers in a way! Indeed an album with lots of variation, but to call it convincing? No, unfortunately not. The guitar sound is too soft to make the guitar powerful, and the majority of the songs sound a little flat. To be honest, I don’t think there is much more to say about this record. An own style? Yes. Variation? Yes. Good and convincing? Not enough. A pity, because the talent is definitely there.
