Artist: ZNO
Album: AgressiVsouls
Year: 2007
ZNO is already present on this website with two EP
reviews, so why shouldn’t we review the third one as
well, right? ZNO combines dark ambient with metal into a
very dark package, and their new EP is called
AgressiVsouls. After the good ratings on the preverious
releases, I became quite curious for this new one.
‘Opening’ is the intro of this new release, followed by
‘Depth of Humanity’. This track contains ambient
sampling with a mesmerizing beat, and very wellplaced
synthlines. ‘Zunga’ is a very easy listening track, with
some bashing programming near the end of the track. Wto
is very ambient based again, with very dark sampling and
cool added vocal samplings. Also on this track, the clue
lays near the end of it, when it suddenly seems to come
alive. ‘Spacer’ is the next one, which contains sick
sampling and powerful programming near the end. The
synth lines fit the song perfectly. ‘The Lonely Man’ has
orchestral/EBM influences, with a sick noisy/ambient
outro.
In my opinion, ZNO improved their ambient works clearly,
but it is really a pity that they decided to remove the
guitar parts completely out of their music. Also a point
of critic: it seems that all the songs are built the
same way. It starts gently, it slowly works to the
climax and near the end the climax is there, to end
again in the more gentle style. All this words combined
should explain the nice, though not completely stunning
score.
