Artist: OMEGA LITHIUM
Album: Andromeda EP
Year: 2007

It doesn’t happen a lot; bands from Croatia that reach this far that I got to know them. Come to think about it, old school grinders Bolesno Grinje must be the only one... well, until now that is. Omega Lithium is a young four-piece from the Istra regions. This band only exists since March 2007, and says to mix metal with gothic and industrial. ‘Andromeda’ is the title of their first EP, which consists of three tracks.

‘Hollow March’ opens with powerful and strong guitars, accompanied by gentle electronics, to be followed by dark musical works and clean vocal lines. It turns out to be an effective mix that’s spread all over the track (pay also special attention to the intermezzo, which sound like an organ with electronics mixed to the background), which gives the track a decent song structure. The title track of the release comes up next. It has a very dreamy and industrial opening, but when the strong industrial metal guitar riffs are added the song changes it’s face. It’s a very atmospheric and gothic influenced track, with very powerful (pre-)chorusses and gentle, dark and even danceable intermezzos and couplets. The catchyness in the vocal lines is over the top in the sing-a-long chorus, which makes it probably the most accessable track on the release. ‘Ocean Dream’ kicks off with some very atmospheric keyworks, and when the vocal lines are added the track evolves into a pure gothic metal track, in vein of After Forever, Epica, a.o. It’s the lessser metal and uptempo track, and it shows a more old school side of Omega Lithium, which is definitely one that should be heard. The bouncing industrial beats that are added here and there are spread all over the track like a heartbeat.

A lot of good points about this band, but also a little point of critic. The song structures could be a little more diverse; ‘Hollow March’ and ‘Andromeda’ are more or less built with the same concept, which might not have been hearable if this was a full-lenght album and the tracks weren’t this close to eachother, but it is now. Next to this, nothing but positive words. Andrea’s vocal lines are sensitive though powerful, and her English pronounciation isn’t perfect but more than acceptable. The electronic parts are gentle, though present, and very important in each track, as well the powerful guitars and drumparts. Omega Lithium created an own sound already after a couple of months which is quite accessable, and could become very popular at the bigger audience. Don’t be surprised if they are headlining world tours within five years.
