Artist: HERRSCHAFT
Album: Architects Of The Humanicide
Year: 2006

Herrschaft is a rather unknown electro metal band from the capital of France. Born at the end of the year 2004, they did not waste any time because one year later their debut 5-track EP has been sent upon the world already. In their biography, they say to be able to combine both faces of the majestic worlds of electro and industrial, wrapped within a metal typhoon. I bet you must be as curious as I was when I read this.

The music of this band may sound a little complex here and there, but to explain I have never had a more easy job. Take the dark electro of Tamtrum, mix it with the powerful rock/metal of bands like Punish Yourself and Golem 101 and imagine an industrial black metal attitude around it, then you’ll get the idea. Of course this is nothing new (bands like Thee Maldoror Kollektive are doing this already for some time), but this doesn’t mean that this sucks at all. The mix of brutal noisy stuff with easy listening parts even sounds a little catchy in a way, and all the songs are build decently. ‘Rise to the Humanicide’ sounds a little chaotic, and I think it is more meant as an intro than as a real song. ‘Apogee’ fits excellent into the earlier given description. The icy screams and the brutal beats are the basis of the song, completed with some punky guitarwork like we are used with on Punish Yourself songs. ‘Haunting Torture’ is more darkrock based. The distortion vocals mixed with the wellknown screams give this song a weird, but cool identity. The sampling went from brutal to dark and atmospheric, which makes this song a more easy listening and even little catchy one. ‘Self Bondage’ has some kind of freaky name, but the music is not this freaky. Cold sampling mixed with a dark, black metal attitude might be a good description for this song. And a closer listen learns us that they have some weird sampling added here and there too! ‘De Flammes Et D’Ombres’ is the last song, probably written in their native language (I use the word ‘probably’ because I hardly understand anything of the lyrics). A mix between Rammstein and TMK is the perfect description for this song, which also is the last one of the record. Herrschaft have proved that they are able to mix many different elements with eachother. The sound quality is more than accepteable, and to be honest, I can’t wait to hear a full lenght of these guys, because the 22 minutes of this EP are a bit short.
