Some of you might remember their industrial doomdeath song 'Hearts2Hearts' on our beloved F**k Em All - Volume 3 compilation, but for most people Backdoor Syndicate is a new and exciting name on the industrial metal front. This four-piece was born in 2007 and says to play "industrial gothic metal". 'We Bring Victory' is this band's debut release.
After the atmospheric intro 'We Bring Victory', the EP starts with 'Come Closer'. It's a nice mix of wave and doomdeath, coming with powerful drumming and riffing blended together with cold atmospheric keylines and sampling. The brutal vocal parts fit the song excellently. 'Hearts2Hearts' is a midtempo based industrial metal track, coming with old school keyworks, recogniseable vocal lines, electro based samples and straight forward riffing and drumming. Within the song we find influences of wave and EBM as well. 'Fear Inc.' turns out to be my favorite track on this release. It offers you a catchy and powerful mix of wave and electro metal, coming with recogniseable key- and vocal lines, simple though powerful drumming and very wellfitting riffing. Overall the track comes with a midtempo attitude, without losing the power of the metal side of the song. The EP ends with a "Headquarters Number One" remix of 'Come Closer', which is a nice mix of electro and future pop... a nice bonus track!
With 'We Bring Victory', Backdoor Syndicate proves to be a band to keep a very close eye on. Their powerful sound combined with more than decent songbuilding and a certain amount of variation gives them two, maybe three steps ahead on other debut releases. If you consider yourself a fan of bands such as Volkmar, Black Light Discipline, Chrisallys and maybe even Rammstein, and you wouldn't mind more brutal vocal lines - go download this EP for free on their MySpace page. These guys definitely know how to make music!
