Artist: BBYB
Album: Debbybut
Year: 2009

Cybergrind from Czech Republic. Cybergrind? Yes indeed. It has been a while ago since we've had any reviews into this subgenre, yes we know... Anyway, there's not too much information to be found on the internet about BBYB besides some reviews, and after unfolding the strangely shaped booklet it didn't help me much further either. Amount of band members? No clue. Preverious releases? No clue, but judging from the title there were none. The music? You'll get the answer in two minutes, or maybe three if you don't read this review very fast...

'Lorem Ipsum' is a noisy and atmospheric instrumental intro, to be followed by 'Kalimerum'. It's an hysteric track including breakcore rhytms, brutal vocal lines, straight forward riffing and a big blended mix of all kinds of weird sounds and samples, variating from dub to harsh industrial. 'Usmevavý Parní Vál' is a more industrial death metal based track, coming with an old school midtempo approach and sticky grunting vocals. It's much more accessable than it's precedor. 'Certpreze' follows. It comes with an experimental approach mixing breakcore with gabber, absorbing influences from out of the drum'n'bass corner, to mix it with straight forward grindcore riffing and vocal lines. 'IEEE Anal' is again a more midtempo and marching track, coming with bashing drums and heavy industrial riffing. The brutal vocal lines giving it a more cybergrind approach. 'Kozí Dech' is a nearly 3 minute whirlwind of breakcore, hardcore, ambient/noise and cybergrind. It's a brutally bouncing song, that's making it hard for you to not nod your head or tap your foot on. As well pay special attention to the silly sounding intermezzo. Next up comes the Otto Von Schirach coversong - 'Luhování Mrtvoly'. It's a slow and distorted track, with vocals sounding like a pigfarm and simple though effective riffing and programming. 'Tehace' is again a bit more death metal orientated, built on a spine of decent drumming and ditto riffing, accompanied by diverse brutal vocals. 'Pigface' mixes breakcore and drum'n'bass drumming with growls and piggy vocals (think of bands like Pigsty and Ass To Mouth), resulting in a steady cybergrind track. The subtile riffing fits the song excellently. 'Robot Debil' is already the final track on this release. It's an experimental track, mostly midtempo, containing powerful drumming, 8 bit Gameboy likely sounds and a mixture of different keys and sampling. The brutal riffing and vocal give this electro noisy track a cybergrind attitude.

BBYB turns out to be a very positive surprise for my ears and eartrumpets. The fact that BBYB implents enough "human" elements - such as not pitched vocals or guitars - give the band a more extreme and metal sound, as well the slightly touches of breakcore within the drumming of some songs is gold. I remember having heard some Libido Airbag and Spermswamp songs on compilation albums, if you like those bands you could definitely give this one a try as well. Despite the fact that I rather have a profound love for regular grindcore / powerviolence / goregrind stuff than cybergrind, I'm certain that this CD will end up in my CD player quite a few times more in the future. Roughly said - think Atari Teenage Riot going much more extreme.
