Artist: BLACKSMOKE
Album: Post Terrorist Modernism EP
Year: 2003

The Blacksmoke Project was born in 2003 in the United Kingdom, when James Fogarty (known for his works in Ewigkeit and The Bombs of Enduring Freedom) teamed up with KLF co-founder Jimmy Cauty and Keir-Jens Smith (808 State media relations manager. Indeed not a combination you hear everyday, and so my curiousity awoke immidiately. The very first release of this project came out in the same year as the birth year of the project, named ‘Post Terrorist Modernism EP’. This EP, containing of four tracks, was described as "post-terrorist modernism for the Boom Bang Generation".

The first track, 'Usa Usa', has a good strong core; the beat is steady and able to be changing, very fun with a mixture of sound and voice clips that bring an extra element to it. The energy and flow makes it great song to listen to again and again. The next song, 'Fuck the Fuckin’ Fuckers', keeps with the tenacious beat, it very clearly states opinions on certain topics ranging from political to pop culture. A great way to expressing feelings and beliefs through artistic views very vividly composed. The third song, 'Blacksmoke Rising', yet again this song brings an unbroken beat powerful without faulter, this song clearly states their opinions. The sound bits are added to bring a chaotic blend to an up-tempo song without losing the meaning. The last song, 'Silent Night', has more of a melancholy feel. The song itself companied with the actual news casting brings it all together with a very real feeling of sorrow. This demonstrates the deepness of the bands creativity when composing songs.

Their strong solid core and mixture of sound clips makes them a great up beat band I particularly liked this about the band. The way they can then turn the tables on you and compose a song that invokes sorrow and true feelings towards tragedy makes them an intriguing band. This band has the feel of bombs of enduring freedom the up-tempo beats has when bringing up the political stand points. ‘Blacksmoke Rising’ seemed to be a bit repetitive for my tastes, thus the reason I did not give a perfect score. I'm sure you will find this to be a great listen and will be looking forward to the next releases, I know I will.
