Artist: BLITZKILL
Album: Blitzkill
Year: 2008

Blitzkill is an industrial metal/cyberpunk project from Germany, that's existing since 1995 but only operates under this current name since 2007. The band says to be influenced by The Prodigy and Nine Inch Nails, as well by Rammstein and even Slayer. The band released a couple of demos in the past, and this self-titled one is their currently latest.

'This Is A.I.' is the first track of the release. It's an easy listening track with electronic sampling, wicked drumming and distorted guitarwork. Musically the track lays inbetween electro metal and cyberpunk. 'Metal Techno' is a more danceable track, with Rammstein likely riffing and techno/electro influenced programming that's bashing all over the track. The appearance of dark electro keylines around the middle of the track give the song a certain variation, in DerDrakos style. 'Play Hard' comes up next. It's a track in cyberpunk style, with more metal riffing. The industrial drumming is wicked, and the strong guitar riffs fits it excellently. 'Tech Killer' contains industrial death metal riffing and vocal works, mixed with wicked danceable programming rhytms and a powerful though accessable attitude. 'No One' is a more experimental track, with strong links to ambient and dark electro. It's an instrumental track, which includes slightly added distorted guitar parts. 'Amazing' contains thrashy riffing, uptempo (electro influenced) programming and wicked sampling. As well, this one is an instrumental track. 'Kill And Die' is another very experimental track, moving from old school EBM and ambient parts to more cyber and drum'n'bass parts. Overall the song is uptempo and danceable, though pretty accessable. Again a track without any vocal lines. 'Napalm' is an instrumental and dark atmospheric electro ambient track, with no links to metal. 'Wait For The Moment' moves from EBM and electro to... EBM and electro. Overall this track bores me a little. 'Message' finally contains some riffing and again. It swaps from metal parts to dreamy electronic parts, making the track one of the more experimental ones. Overall it's a powerful track, with very wicked drumming. 'Blitz' is very drum'n'bass-based (if that's even a word!). It's easy going and welldriven, but not 'loud' enough to make a real statement. 'Fuck You' could be a cover of any rap artist, but I am pretty sure it's not. It's a harsh electro track, with disturbing sampling and midtempo programming. The release ends with a remix for the track 'Amazing', which turns out to be better than the original. It includes influences from electro and industrial metal, sailing on a dreamy atmosphere.

This self-titled demo is one with two faces. On one side - the metal/cyberpunk side, which isn't bad at all but just lacks production. On the other side, there are quite a lot instrumental industrial/ambient tracks, which get boring the more you listen to them. I'm not a big fan of these many instrumental tracks as well - including some more metal ones as well. I think, when you put both sides on a scale, the final 'good enough but nothing more'-vote justifies it all.
