Artist: CHICKENHAWK
Album: A Or Not
Year: 2009
Chickenhawk is a four-piece hailing from the United Kingdom. The band got formed in 2004, and since then the band has proven to be pretty active due to various releases before releasing this very EP you're reading the review of now. The band as well did some touring with Dutch legends Kong, and managed to grab various great reviews with their 'avantgarde metal' tunes.
'A Or Not' opens with the track entitled 'I Hate This, Do You Like It?'. It's a nearly five minutes long track filled with subliminal riffing, powerful drumming and brutal vocal lines - that despite its roughness comes with a certain form of accessibility. 'Son Of Cern' is built on wicked drumming, variative vocal lines and ditto riffing. Overall the song comes with a modern attitude. 'NASA vs. ESA' is a less hyperactive track, with midtempo drumming and pretty impressive guitarwork all over. It includes influences from out of the hardcore and maybe even metalcore corners.
Chickenhawk maybe doesn't bring you the common industrial metal - come to think about it, maybe this isn't industrial metal at all, but it definitely brings you something interesting and pretty unique and experimental to check out. Fans of industrial metal bands such as Fear Factory, Dagoba, Zuul FX, Scorngrain and in common might probably agree with me.
