Artist: CONCRETE LUNG
Album: Waste Of Flesh
Year: 2010

Concrete Lung is not only an example of how creative people get these days when they have to find a fitting bandname for their music, as well its biography promises to take you on a road to Hell filled with skeletons. This duo from London, England, says to take influences from bands including Skinny Puppy, Ministry, early Pitchshifter and Killing Joke and releases this 'Waste Of Flesh' EP shortly after their debut release 'The Dawn Of X'. It consists of five tracks and two remixes.

'Breathe in the Monochrome' is the first track on this EP. It comes with bashing midtempo drums, wellfitting atmospheric riffing and recogniseable vocal lines - mixing well together with the wellplaced samples and keylines. 'Recovery Position' opens with dark electro keylines, to be followed by a powerful industrial metal track. It has intense drumming, straight forward riffing and essential sampling and keylines, all blended perfectly together by the accessable vocal lines. The song nearly comes with a danceable attitude even. 'Pyre Burns' is a downtempo track, mixing atmospheric keylines with dark electro touches and powerful riffing. The pitched vocal lines are an essential part of this song, fitting the music excellently. 'Destructive' is my favorite track on the release. It switches from brutal industrial metal riffing to subtile atmospheric riffing, accompanied by wicked programming and subtile placed keylines. Once again the vocal lines are accessable, giving the song a certain boost. 'Waste of Flesh' is the most experimental track on the release, moving from ambient passages to bashing downtempo industrial parts with simple though straight forward riffing. Overall the song has an haunting dark atmosphere. The remixes for 'Sins of Flesh' and 'Graveyard Recovery' - coming as a bonus - bring us smooth and accessable mixes of ambient and electro, creating a nice ending for this CD.

With 'Waste Of Flesh', Concrete Lung proves to be an excellent alternative for fans of bands like Ministry and Swamp Terrorists, as well for bands like Division Alpha, Punish Yourself, The CNK and DeadCell. This 'Waste Of Flesh' EP includes no so-called fillers, and delivers us a package of accessable and decently built tracks, making Concrete Lung definitely a band to keep a close eye on. Basically the only downside of this release is the short amount of tracks...
