Artist: SCORNGRAIN
Album: Cyberwarmachine
Year: 2004

Once upon a time, there was a Thursday. I had a bad day and I though it couldn’t get worse. Well, it didn’t get worse because there was a package from Finland waiting for me on the stairs and that package contained something which made my day. Because, after a long time of crawling in front of my mailbox it had finally arived: the Cyberwar-machine promo. From the moment you press play you are sucked into the post-apocalyptic world that is called Scorngrain.

The first song is called 24-7. After a short intro with fading in guitars all Hell breaks loose. After a minute or so you hear that the term Cyber Trash Metal is not just for show. The guitars have a trashy sound and the samples are perfectly blend in with the music, furthermore I can hear some synth present and that also blends in the music very well. In this song the synth sounds very apocalyptic and that fits perfectly with the lyrics thus giving you a good taste of the war filled atmosphere. TwentynineA vocals simply sound insane. Overall this is just great! The only thing that is strange about the song are the Hip-Hop kind of vocals, but don’t worry: it actually sounds really good and also fits in the music. The Next song is called Blank and starts with like violin sounding synth. This song has good rhythm and some kind of groove that will not let you sit still during this song. The rest of the synth, guitars and samples let this song sound very catchy. The title song of the album: “Cyberwarmachine” follows. I suggest you download the video from the official site, because it is a great song. This song reflects the whole album pretty well in my opinion. Flesh means Pain is the next track. The songs starts with some calm samples and drum and is followed with a nice solo. This whole song is a bit slower then the previous tracks but picks the tempo up a little bit later in the song. The guitars sound very trashy in this song and the samples are very active in this song. The song also contains a sort of climax at the end where the music in general has a bit of a Gothenburg sound (well that is just what comes to mind when I hear it). Now ladies and gentleman it is time to pick up the pace again in “Killing Breed”. The song starts with fast guitars and keys and has a trashy sound. This is also a very catchy sounding song: cybertrash-metal on its best if you ask me! 4-D Religion kicks of with a bit false sounding organ (could religion have anything to do with it?). Then the guitars kick in with the same rhythm as the organ, only faster. This song has some crazy loops and samples and the song sounds really powerfull. New Paradise (Bukake Remix) is not that different from the original song of the demo, only the production is better and the samples are altered a bit if you ask me. Dawn of Hypocrite God is again a more trashy (but yet melodic) sounding song with a bit of disturbing sounds and keys. No Funeral for the last is my favourite track and somehow sounds kind of soothing (maybe that’s just me). The keys are very active at this track and sound so damn awesome. Because of the keys this song feels like a Melodic Death Metal song (what I totally don’t dislike). This song is just the perfect ending track for the album! This album is awesome and demands respect. The Production is flawless and all the instruments and samples fit perfectly with eachother. I don’t know how they managed to pull it of but they did it, they master the genre that is called Cyber Trash Metal completely. I can’t wait for their next move and I’m sure whatever they do it will be great. Thank you Scorngrain for this great music…Keep on doing what you do!!
