Artist: PAIN
Album: Dancing With The Dead
Year: 2005
Peter Tägtgren is literally back from the dead with this
album. It has been 3 years sinds his last album “Nothing
Remains the Same”. Peter made a lot of changes on this
new album, the original concept for pain was that the
programming was leading the way for the music, this time
the guitars are foundation for the album and you can
really hear that when the first song “Don’t Count Me
Out” bangs through your speakers.
”Don’t Count Me Out” is more Metal oriented song with
heavy but cold sounding guitars. The second song ”Same
Old Song” is a bit less fast and heavy but has Folky
sounding Synth and catchy melody’s and lyrics. This song
is about everyday life and all the producers and label
bosses breathing down his neck all the time, it’s always
the same old song. After this comes one of my favourite
songs “Nothing”, this song has a heavy intro but slows
down after that, on this song Peter sings with a lot of
feeling and that really fits with the lyrics.
Furthermore, this song uses a bit more loops and samples
then the first two songs. ”The Tables Have Turned” is a
bit more based on the programming, this is a somewhat
slower song and has some scratching samples in it, the
synth is more on the background. ”Not Afraid to Die” is
about Peter’s death experience, he was standing at the
bar as usual and suddenly Peter collapsed and his hart
stopped beating, fortunately his friends where present
and they managed to get him up and running again. This
song is more Synth oriented and contains a lot of
samples and loops and has a nice synth solo. The refrain
of the song is very catchy. Now comes the title song of
this album “Dancing With the Dead”, a more metal
oriented song with samples and strange sounding with
guitars on the background. The is again a song with
catchy lyrics. The next song starts like it’s a 80 ties
hiphop song, only Peter ain’t rappin’. After the guitars
kick in you can be relieved that Peter is not starting a
hiphop career only a few hiphop ellement’s remain
through out the song. ”Bye/Die” is a fast extremely
catchy song, the guitars sound a bit less cold then in
the previous songs. Noooo, not an hiphop like intro
again, yes again but it’s not that bad c’mon. This time
the hiphop thing is only at the into and doesn’t come
forward in the rest of the song. The rest of the guitars
on this song sound heavy and cold and the lyrics are
about how life can be sometimes: Like a drag. ”A Good
Day to Die” is a some more Trash Metal sounding song
because of the guitars and as you can already hear from
the title the lyrics are about depression, life bringing
you down, emptiness and suicide (some of my favourite
lyrical themes), in this song you can really hear
Hypocrisy is Peter’s other band. ”Stay away” has a
electro/darkwave kind of intro and this song sounds a
bit darker then the rest of the songs. The song has nice
rhythm and damn catchy lyrics, Warning: You will catch
yourself singing this song together with Peter. The Last
song “The Third Wave” starts a bit cheerful and is a bit
bombastic, there is nothing mutch to say about this song
actually I don’t think it’s that this song is that
special. Overal this is a good album with catchy songs
and Peter did a good job creating it. It’s sounds a bit
less industrial (but it still is industrial) but that is
not a great loss because the lyrics and guitars make up
for it.
