Artist: KAOS KREW
Album: Devour
Year: 2006

Finland is known for its thousands of lakes, and I begin to believe that in those lakes there is hiding an evil munster. One that forces Finnish people to make metal, and specially industrial metal. Bands like The Sin:Decay, Turmion Kätilöt, Diabolos Rising and Scorngrain already were infected by it, and now we have here a brand new trio that can be added to these victims. Kaos Krew is quite a new band, that released its ‘Devour’ album in 2006 on the ‘Top Records’ (not that I ever heard of them anyway) label.

If there is one good way to describe Kaos Krew, I think I have found it: industrial heavy metal. Clearly industrial because of the industrial touch and sampling, and heavy metal due to the guitarriffs (and solo’s... specially the solo’s!) and the vocals. But, there are different influences too. ‘Fat Chance’ contains some thrashy riffs, while ‘Trust Me’ is an excellent opener which is clearly Rob Zombie / Gothminister / MortIIs influenced. But, the main thing that does not make me want to keep on listening to this record, is that most of the songs are completely instrumental. Don’t get me wrong, the instrumental songs are all decently build, but to me it still gets a little boring when I don’t hear a voice in most of the songs. ‘Greed’, one of the songs with vocals, turned out to be my favourite song, with some cool sampling and very powerful guitar riffs, but unfortunately it is one of the very few light dots on this sterile album. I feel that there is not much left to say about it. It’s decent, but not gold.
