Artist: DEKADENZ
Album: Elektronoid
Year: 2005

Simple, catchy guitar riffs, German lyrics, bashing drums... a Rammstein rip-off? No, not at all. What I am talking about here is a new band from Germany called DekadenZ. They say to be making dark cyber metal, but I would describe it as industrial black. Elektronoid is their debut album, which has been released in 2005.

If I should describe this record within one word, I’d pick ‘experimental’. 'Why?', I hear you ask? Well, this isn’t just an album which represents one style. DekadenZ manages to make a record with melodic black metal songs, industrial black metal songs and even some potential dancefloor hits. After the atmospheric ‘Bootsektor’ intro, the album kicks off with ‘Des Menschheitsgrab’, a melodic black metal song in vein of Martyrium and old C(K)ovenant. The song stands decent, and some gothic metal influences are clearly hearable. ‘Träumer’, the next track, is different: industrial/cyber sampling and mostly low grunts make this a more brutal song than the preverious. It is an easy listening song, and one of my favourites of the album. ‘Mechatronik’ has a futuristic intro, but what follows is a nice piece of industrial death (think of Malmonde and Thee Maldoror Kollektive). It is a bit chaotic here and there, but in the end it turned out that this is a good and decent song. ‘Amok 2.5’ is a very atmospheric song, where black metal is mixed with cyber. EBM influences make this song into a potential dancefloor killer. With six and a half minutes also the longest track of the record. The next track, ‘vom Untergang’, brings you back to the concept used in ‘Träumer’; a catchy chorus and easy listening industrial/cyber music. This song can be described in one word as well: robotic. My favourite track of the record, for sure! Unvergessen brings you a brutal mix of EBM and metal, the way Vigilante is specialized in. Maybe another song for the dancefloor? Salz is a song more black metal again. It reminds me of bands like …And Oceans and T3chnophob1a, and I must say that this is really done well. Hörst Du Die Engel Singen is the final track of the album, another melodic black one. This one is maybe the most atmospheric one of this record, and it is a nice ending of a surprisingly good debut. Oh yes, for fans of Von Sirius, The Kovenant, Vigilante and Malmonde a very good alternative!
