Artist: MALMONDE
Album: EVA
Year: 2005

The fact that the French dudes of Malmonde got major balls doesn’t have to be confirmed anymore. Major label Osmose Productions signed this band after already one four track demo for the release of their self-titled debut album (read review elsewhere on the page) because of their great potential in their music. Then, Malmonde had the balls to leave the major label to find a smaller, more appropriate label to release their second album ‘EVA’. While their debut album was promoted as ‘a great mix between Samael and Rammstein’ Malmonde promised some more brutal stuff on their second epos, which was definitely not a shitty promise. Because real man with balls will keep their promises!

The basis of cyber metal hasn’t dissapeared, but stretched out more and more to reach different styles. ‘Behind Me’ is a masterpiece of modern industrial death metal which can be described as a mix between Scarve and Dagoba. Slow, clean vocals parts mixed with some old school death metal riffs (and grunts) and extravagant cyber tunes make this song a great opener. The final tunes of this song are killer! ‘En Haut Des Murs’ is already downloadable from the official site for some time, so it must sound rather familiar to some of you and of course to me. Heavy guitar parts with machinery drumbeats are the strong basis of this song, embraced by the cyberish style of this band. One of the more brutal tracks of the album! ‘Just A Whisper’ has a death metal sounding intro, but the further the song goes the more different influences appear. Gothic, electro and even a little of the HC touch mark this great track. Try to sit on your chair without the urge to move, I can guarantee you that it will be a damn hard job! ‘Nowhere’ brings you back to the Osmose Productions era, with the exception of the clean vocals which used to appear only here and there but are now spreaded all over the song. This song turns out to be a more easy listening one, with even some female vocals on it! ‘Here They Come’ is another decent industrial death metal song, with even a little use of grim black metal vocals. The clean vocals parts are beautifully performed and there is a thrilling guitar solo hidden near the end. ‘Avorte La Douleur’ is another song written in their native language. Strong guitar riffs and powerful drumwork are the musical basis of this track, while the diversity of the vocals give this song an own identity (like every song has on this record). The Fear Factory influences are clearly hearable at the end. After the instrumental title track of this album, ‘La Ronde’ follows. Maybe the best track in my opinion of the record. Why? Because of the great electro parts, and the damn effective old school guitar riffs. Listen to the track and you’ll know what I mean! Probably too heavy for the ears of some of you! ‘My Way’ fortunately isn’t a cover of the shitty Limp Bizkit track, but another decent Malmonde track. Atmospheric keys mixed with factorial guitar and drum work with great vocal parts is a good way to describe this track. ‘No Trespassing’ starts with a cyber intro, but the typical industrial death metal guitar work wakes you up immidiately. Modern and powerful industrial cyber death metal track! ‘Revolution’ is surprisingly catchy in a way. The chorus is one of those who stays in your head for some time after you have listened to this song, and the great electro parts give this song the little extra thing that makes a track wonderful in stead of good. And don’t forget to mention the powerful metal stuff all over the track! ‘Nobody Can Go Back’ is an instrumental one again, and afterwards the last track of the album follows. ‘There Is Nothing’ is a sentimental track, different from the others, but damn effective. Think of a mix of Qntal and Tool and you’ll get the point. The ironic part of this album is the fact that after the song ‘There Is Nothing’ the album has ended. A pity, because I really enjoyed listening to it.

But, the solution is near. Press the play button another time, and experience all the songs again! Caring parents, protect your children for this one, because Malmonde destroys!
