Artist: BLOOD
Album: G.E.N.
Year: 2006

Blood from Spain came in the picture on this website about a year ago, with a review of the “Psike” album followed by an interview. Since then, the band did quite a lot of gigs in Spain, worked on a collaboration with our beloved friends from Industrial Mafia and... they worked on new material. This EP, named “G.E.N.”, is the first result out of it. It exists of three new songs, five remixes and three instrumental versions of the new songs.

‘Gotika’ is the first track of this EP. For the ones who are familiar with Blood, I can say this is a typical Blood track. For the ones who aren’t familiar with Blood, lets put it this way: take the guitar sound of Rammstein, electronic sampling and atmospheric keys and mix it with Spanish lyrics. This results in a pretty danceable mix with a big industrial attitude, and that’s the way I like it for sure. ‘Egos’ is the next track. This song can be related to some works done by Ministry, but without the punky attitude. A heavy bassline is drilling itself through this song, and the harsh EBM sampling seems really wellfitting in it. Of course, this song contains Spanish lyrics and some atmospheric keys too. ‘Nirvana’, the next song, is entirely in Spanish too (as you probably expected). Musically it has the same concept of the preverious songs, although it do has a different sound. There are more electro based keys hidden here and there, and the blastbeats in the end of this track are contradictive with the quiet intermezzo. A song filled with surprises, but don’t we all like them if they are good? The remixes on this EP are totally different than the three new songs. The Code Name remix is very EBM based and guitarless (if that is even a word!), while the ‘Mas Gas’ remix has quite a lot techno influences. The remix of ‘Ansia’ sounds perfect for the dancefloor in a gothic club, while the ‘Victimas’ remix is very synth pop based. In the end, this EP features instrumental versions of the three new songs, which are a nice bonus but not something I would listen to every day.

This EP turned out to be a nice teaser for the upcoming work of Blood. Fans of bands like Golem 101, Next Waste Dimension, Herrschaft and T3chn0ph0b1a should really check out Blood... and vice versa!
