Artist: LUNTARA
Album: Goth Drenched Whorefare
Year: 2005
I got to know Luntara from the U.K. because of the
Deathstars forum. As always, I got curious about the
music behind the cool name and I checked it out. What I
found was some atmospheric gothic metal, with a touch of
industrial. 'Goth Drenched Whorefare' is their debut EP,
which was released in 2005.
The release starts with 'The Storm'. After the first
atmospheric minute, some cool clean vocals appear. I am
not that fond of clean vocals, but these just fit to the
music in a good way. Best thing about this song: it is
atmospheric and melodic, but though pretty powerful (specially
the end). Next is track two, entitles 'Suicide'. This
song really shows me that Deathstars is one of their
main influences, although it is definitely not a
Deathstars rip-off. Powerful guitar riffs are mixed very
well with the vocals, which shows me an other side of
this band (in this song, there is not much keyboard used).
Best song of the album: this really sounds like gothic
metal! 'Lady Die' is the third track of this EP. A song
which shows me another side of this band, although when
you hear it you recognise it as a Luntara song
immidiately. The spine of this song are the drums and
vocals. They are very well and pretty complex
accompanied by the rest of the instruments. Don't like
the guitar solo parts that much though. The last track
is a bonus track. Luntara managed to produce a good
cover of Deathstars' 'Syndrome'. First thing that I
noticed is that the vocals were replaced by grunts. The
rest of the song? It sounds like the original one,
although Luntara has made a version of it where you can
hear their own style. I think a good cover is when it
sounds like a song of yourself, and this song really
does. Well, as usual some final words? This band has
surprised me in a positive way, and I can't wait to hear
more of them in the future.
