Artist: GROTESQUE GALLERY
Album: Kirkidia
Year: 2010
Grotesque Gallery is another band from Finland, the country with maybe the best industrial metal scene in the whole wide world. Born in 2007, this two-piece says to mix influences from metal-, rock- and popmusic with electronic elements. According to the press-sheet, this is the band's very first release.
'Neverno' is the first track on the promo. It comes with cyber metal drums, little ambient intermezzo's, straight to the point riffing and wellplaced keylines. The brutal vocal parts fit the song excellently. 'Ehka Sietaisin Kuolla' switches from industrial death metal parts to midtempo wave parts, blended together with a cyber metallish attitude. The dark growls and the atmospheric riffing are essential for the atmosphere. 'Allorgy' is the best song on the release. It comes with electronic sampling, industrial metal keylines and recogniseable riffing. The brutal attitude of the programming and the vocal lines give the song a cyber metal edge and an open invitation to bang your head. 'Ei Muistikuvia' is a midtempo industrial death metal track, coming with brutal riffing and vocal lines. Despite the welladded samples, it's probably the less industrial track on the release.
With 'Kirkidia', Grotesque Gallery brings us a nice and diverse demo, that can be stuffed into the cyber metal corner. The only downside I could find in this release is the raw and flat production. If you are able to see through that, and you enjoy listening to bands such as Malmonde and TV Blood this is one to look out for. I'm looking forward to hear a full-lenght of these guys, with a more proper production, because the potential on this project is very high.
