Artist: GLAUKOM SYNOD / STIGMA DIABOLICUM
Album: Split CD
Year: 2007

Glaukom Synod from France was already spreading its name through the album reviews section quite well, and now we have another split CD where GKS is involved! This time, the other ‘band’ is called Stigma Diabolicum, also from France. Since there was no website of Stigma Diabolicum mentioned in the booklet, I tried some online searching. This didn’t result in anything that had to do with this project, so I decided to call it a day and to just start the review. For the people who think that this is just another regular split, you are wrong. Glaukom Synod remixes one track (of 25 minutes!) from Stigma Diabolicum, and Stigma Diabolicum remixes five tracks of Glaukom Synod. As a bonus, there’s an unreleased Glaukom Synod track added to the split as well.

First, lets have a closer look to the Glaukom Synod part of this split. The remix of the Stigma Diabolicum track ‘Exhumation’ is the first one. This is a rough mix of all kinds of elements. First: industrial ambient, and a very dark version of it. I suppose this is the music Stigma Diabolicum usually makes, since it is the spine of the whole track. Next, we can hear some noisy elements that are added here and there. To be honest, I am not that much of an ambient fan, and the track got bored after about six minutes, but I caught all my courage together to listen the whole song, and I must say that the final 10 minutes were way more interesting than I could expect! The ‘bonus’ track done by Glaukom Synod sounds exactly like what I am used to of this project: insane beats, complex substitutions and wicked sampling! Excellent! Glaukom Synod side: 70 / 100.
Next up are the Glaukom Synod tracks remixed by Stimga Diabolicum, so lets call this part the Stigma Diabolicum part. There are some great remixes to be found here. Some songs still bashes on their original beats mostly, but others are completely different. ‘Subterranean Nuttgrabber’ for example sounds completely different from the usual GKS style, but in the end the insanity breaks loose. On ‘Naustril’, we hear some extremely sick sampling that might damage your ears forever. This side of the split was quite enjoyable to listen to, but it wasn´t better or worse than the other side of this split if you ask me. Stigma Diabolicum side: 70 / 100.

In the end, all I have to say is that the final vote will not surprise you, and that this split is limited to 100 copies!

Vote: 70 / 100
