Artist: GLAUKOM SYNOD / THE PROCESSUS
Album: Split CD
Year: 2006

Allrighty, we have another split CD to review! This time there are two French one-man projects to be found on it. Glaukom Synod is already quite known for me after a few reviews and an interview. It’s the solo project of a guy named Gabriel, and he is not afraid to experiment with all kinds of metal and industrial in one chaotic mix. The preverious demos all had a positive review on our webpage, so I was expecting some more cool stuff here. The Processus is yet unknown to me. According to the info on this CD and the MySpace page, Al Slumber (the guy who gave birth to this solo project) makes some sick kind of industrial black metal. Since even the new Last Days Of Humanity CD isn’t sick enough for me, I was already looking forward to meet this band!

Glaukom Synod has the honour to kick off on this split. And, Gabriel does what we already expected and where his talents lay. All kinds of crazy beats are drilled into your ears, and damn sure that I enjoy this torturing! A song like ‘Ill syncop pleonasm (Caustic)’ is more metal based and influenced, while ‘Subterranean nutgrabber’ even has a little punky sound here and there! Talking about punky sounds, ‘Angels (Circumcision)’, which is quite an easy listening song, seems to have some T.Raumschmiere influences here and there too, but of course way sicker. These ten tracks are gone before you can even notice it, and I am still bouncing here on my chair. Sick and excellent, and to me it seems like this stuff is sounding better on every new release! Glaukom Synod is a definite must for people who think noise is a bit too extreme, while The Berzerker is not yet extreme enough! Vote Glaukom Synod side: 85 / 100.
Now, lets go to the unknown part of this split. The Processus has also given birth to ten tracks for this split CD. And the description of sick industrial black metal seemed really fitting! ‘Fleshchaos’ for example brings you vampiric keys with an insane drum machine and hysteric grim vocals. ‘Vein’ is more mechanized and noise based, but the chaos is still there! ‘Dear Lungs’ could maybe better be called ‘Dear Ears’, since the beats on this one (like a hiddeous heartbeat) are pumped through your ears like a carcrash! This side of the split turned out to be surprisingly good for me. I am wondering if this will ever turn into a live project in the future, because I am sure it will end in mass genocide! Vote The Processus side: 85 / 100.

In the end, this split brought me no surprises on one side, and lots of surprises on the other side. If you feel like you are strong enough to dig this stuff, I can highly recommend this to you! And be fast, because this is only available in a limited size! Write Gabriel of Glaukom Synod if you want this one: scumflesh@wanadoo.fr.

Vote: 85 / 100
