Artist: HELLBONE
Album: Pollinctor
Year: 2009

Hellbone is a fairly young band hailing from Switzerland. After about eight years of experimenting with genres such as triphop, breakbeat, drum'n'bass and other weird stuff, and after playing in various rock and metal bands, the bandmembers formed Hellbone in 2006 to give birth to their own genre and style. The first proof of existence unleashed upon the world is this band's debut album 'Pollinctor', which was released on May 1st 2009 as an independent underground release after two years of creation and production. According to the biography we can expect a mix of Skinny Puppy, Nine Inch Nails, Tool and Depeche Mode.

The album kicks off with the title track. It comes with an accessable and bashing rhytm, which accompanied by the electronic basssynth line and sampling openly invites you to dance or at least tap your foot on. '54 uccide' is a downtempo mix of dark electro and drone, including repetative basslines and heavy industrialized sampling. 'Tronxumbiltium' consists of disturbing sampling, threatning keylines and a rhytm that haunts you like a heartbeat. 'Masrac piorq' follows up with an addictive synthline, bashing industrial programming and noisy ambient samples. Despite the fact that this song clearly lays inbetween the electro borders, we can find slightly dub influences hidden in it. 'Ovarium' is another haunting track with touches of electro, wave and industrial. It has recogniseable indications of vocal lines and a repetative bassline, as well the cold though easy going sounding keylines that are slightly added make this song fit in any psychadelic horror movie. 'Re7moi' comes with an easy rhytm, heavy industrial sounds and a surprisingly quiet intermezzo. Near the end the song explodes into utter chaos. 'Cluarmeth DMT' delivers us a mix of wave, dark electro and synth pop, coming in a heavy sounding industrial package. The accessibility of the synthlines and programming works turn this one into my favorite track on the release. 'Ptomaine' kicks off with haunting synthlines, to slowly evolve into a gentle though dark atmosphered mix of (dark) electro and wave. Also worth noticing and mentioning is the experimental guitarwork on this one. 'Aspurtar' comes with a breakbeat influenced beat, decorated with a protounding bassline and subtile added guitars and vocal parts. Overall the track is sounding quite heavy despite the more light breakbeat drumming. 'Hiroudemesis' is a short, bashing and haunting noisy track, to be followed by the even shorter 'Borknot' - which turns out to be a disturbing ambient track. 'Mocatac rion' continues walking on the ambient path, while absorbing tiny influences from out of the wave and the noise corners. 'Chronosmos' pretty much delivers the same kinda attitude, to be followed by 'Xopium och'. This one brings us a mix of dark electro and an experimental song structure, implying influences from out the wave and ambient corners. The release ends with an eleven-and-a-half-minute track named 'Tonkrob', which consists of ambient tunes, a totally quiet intermezzo and then an ambient wave ending.

Despite the fact that I did a track by track review above, it seems fairly unfair to divide this album in seperate tracks. Overall the album comes with a noticeable atmosphere spread all over the songs, and thus it can be seen as a concept album or as just one long track if you wish. Fortunately this band managed to throw in this many variation that it doesn't get boring at any point. This is one of those releases you should listen to with headphones on, just to be able to hear more details hidden within the music.

With 'Pollinctor', Hellbone delivers us something we can't really put a finger on. Sometimes its synth pop, sometimes ambient, sometimes we have a little bit of dub and sometimes it's close to dark electro, but most of all this is something you haven't heard before and could probably like.
