Artist: IMPURE DOMAIN
Album: HIV Parade
Year: 2004

That there is lots of good shit under the Italian sun has been said by me many times already. But for the people who think that Aborym is the only machine drumming industrial black metal band out there between the electro bands performing at Mario’s place: please meet Impure Domain. This band, existing already about five years, turnes out to be a positive surprise in the industrial black metal world. HIV Parade is their third release, released somewhere in 2004.

That Impure Domain is much, much more than just another machine drumming industrial black metal band can be called a fact. Some experimental pieces are laying in several songs, like some electro intermezzo’s in “Nihilistic” for example. But the major thing that makes this record special is the guitarwork. Impure Domain is one of the few industrial black metal bands I know that manages to combine darkness with power in almost every single riff they make. A very good point is as well that every song has its own identity. Where “Nihilistic” more focused on pure black, a song like “Scanners Ov System_Gott” is more filled with some symphonic parts. “Biotech 8” even has some drumparts that remind me of a band like The Berzerker (but not with the hardstyle sound of course), while a song like “The Endmost Pitch” is more focused on decay and sorrow in stead of blasting brutality. Another song I would like to mention in my review is “Lasertron Rebellion”. Maybe this is the most experimental song of the record, where a mix between melodic black metal and some midtempo stuff is provided. Some doom and gothic influences are hidden in every corner, which makes this definitely a song to remember. To compare this band with a band like Aborym is pretty easy, and yes, there are some equal things hidden in their music, but I dare to state that this band already found its own style. The sound quality is acceptable for a debut album, but I will be one of the first to request a better recording quality on the next album. Smashing album though, and fans of bands like Aborym, Red Harvest and maybe even fans of Malmonde will be finding some pleasant surprises when they discover Impure Domain! Go listen them on www.myspace.com/impuredomain!
