Artist: I HAVE CLONES
Album: Music 2.0
Year: 2008
I Have Clones is a young and fresh one man project from Birmingham, United Kingdom - led by Robx. Not much information can be found on both the official site and the MySpace page (not even something such as a biography), so lets get straight to the music. 'Music 2.0' is the debut EP of this project, and available for free download everywhere and nowhere on the internet. It brings you seven tracks of extravagant passages and diverse influences.
The release opens with 'Vulnerable'. It's a very experimental song, including future pop synth and vocal lines, slightly breakbeat influenced programming and harsh riffing. 'Fear For Flames' is a brutal industrial metal track, going from hardcore influenced cyber metal to industrial black/death metal. Overall the song has experimental programming, diverse vocal lines and brutal riffing, resulting in a track that can be described as Fear Factory meets DyNAbyte, with a little bit of Herrschaft. 'She Chose Chav' brings us a modern mix of electro metal and wave, with extravagant sampling. It's an easy listening song, with midtempo programming and recogniseable vocal lines. 'IHC' is more or less a little intermezzo. It slowly sails from synth pop to future pop and minimal tunes, disturbed with chaotic noisy breakbeat programming works. 'Save Our Scene' comes up next. It's a very gentle electro rock track, with recogniseable clean vocal lines and a catchy chorus. Next to this, the song consists of straight to the point riffing, midtempo programming and modern sampling. 'A Curious Disease' is my personal favorite track. It combines the art of cyber metal with sensitive vocal lines, recogniseable sampling and experimental songbuilding. The chorusses might sound a little chaotic during a first time listening, but will fade away soon enough, uncovering an essential part of the track at the same moment. Overall the song still remains quite accessable - as well because of the quiet, with wicked programming accompanied intermezzo. 'Long Days, Late Nights' is the latest track of the release already. It's another experimental track, moving from classic rock to screamo and a little touch of cyber metal. It moves from quiet, piano accompanied parts to very outgoing chorusses.
With 'Music 2.0', I Have Clones delivers us something we don't hear every day. Already used descriptions such as cyber metal, breakbeat, wave, screamo, future pop and hardcore within the track by track review, with ease we can add (sub)genres such as cyber punk and ambient as well. Mister 'Robx' manages to include all far corners within the seven songs on this release, and still manages to keep letting it sound exciting and new. All the tracks are decently built, despite the many experimental passages, and are almost drowning in diversity. Another proof that free music can hold real quality as well. According to the webpage, we can expect some more free releases in the future, which is reason enough for me to stay tuned.
Now don't you forget to download this release for free on the official website!
