Many good and refreshing bands come out of the Russian society within the industrial metal genre lately. Bands like Xe-None and Digimortal already grabbed my soul before, and Illidiance proves to be the next one in line. This four-piece plays a wicked and fresh form of cyber metal, implenting influences from out of many different corners. This 'Synthetic Breed' EP is very good proof for that.
'Cybergore Generation' opens this EP, and immidiately grabs you and throws you into a hurricane of industrial death metal drumming and riffing accompanied by wellplaced sampling and diverse vocal lines. 'Infected' - some people might remember this song from 'F**k Em All Volume 5' - follows. It's a bit more accessable and cyber influenced, built on a spine of powerful drumming and wicked sampling and keylines. The guitars and vocal lines are diverse and recogniseable. 'Mind Hunters' is a brutal cyber death metal track coming with a bit of a chaotic structure. It comes with ultra fast drumparts switching to melodic electro based parts and a big power boost. 'Razor To The Skin' is my personal favorite on this release. It comes with powerful drumming, excellent cyberish keylines and straight forward riffing, all blended with accessable vocal lines and an overdose of diversity. 'Cybernesis' is the final track on the EP already. It's a powerful though recogniseable mix of cyber metal and wave, coming with modern sampling and keylines and very strong drumming. The riffing is a bit more subtile on this track, giving it a more accessable touch.
'Synthetic Breed' is a very nice introduction for me with this Russian band, and shows the high potential hidden within them. Anyone who considers himself a cyber metal fan should get this one on his hands. Oh - as well this release comes with a nice bonus, namely a live video for the 'Razor To The Skin' track (my personal favorite indeed), which gives a good impression of this band's live performance.
