Artist: BURZUKH
Album: Industrial City
Year: 2004
Burzukh is the one and only industrial metal one man
project from Pakistan. Last year they were thrown upon
our webzine, and blessed with a nice review for their
latest "Orion" release. The "Industrial City" release we
have here now is an older one (2004), but still worthy
and representable enough to make a review about. This
one has seven tracks, and is released under the DIY flag
of the underground.
'Goodbye' is the first track on this release. It's a
very easy listening, old school gothic metal track with
some dark and wicked sampling and recogniseable, clean
vocal lines. 'Know' is an instrumental track, which
contains cyberish FX sampling, a danceable rhytm and
some wellfitting dark keylines. 'The Fire I' comes up
next. Sonically it's the best track of the release, with
slower and more sensitive parts and some dark and more
powerful parts. It's all very old school based, and some
of the guitar parts are really cool. The thing I have
against this track are the vocals. In my opinion, they
are a bit too raw and too punky. 'Fear The Setting Sun'
is a more downtempo track, which is sailing on a dark
atmosphere. It's blessed with dark guitarwork, powerful
though gentle programming work and excellent vocal lines.
'The Fire II' has a mechanical sound on the programming
works. The keylines are synth pop based, and the raw
punky vocals appear on this track again. 'Unlight' is an
instrumental track again. It's very danceable and
contains some experimental FX and guitar works. The
album ends (ironically) with a track called 'Endless'.
Again a track blessed with the old school blood, with
gentle programming and dark vocals.
'Industrial City' isn't a bad release at all, I just got
some major issues with the production. Although all the
songs are decently built, it's hard sometimes to hear
some of the details. The guitar sound all over the
release is very weak (sometimes it even sounds like a
shaving machine!). So, a 'good enough' score on this one
for now, with the hope that this release will be re-released
in the future with a better production.
