Artist: KHADAVER
Album: Beta Version
Year: 2009
Khadaver is a young and fresh 'cyber trash' formation from the Slovak Republic. Although the band was officially formed back in 2004, it took 'till 2006 before it really took shape. After a bunch of live gigs, the band - operating as a trio - entered the studio for what would turn out to be their debut release; a 5-track EP called 'Beta Version'. According to this band's biography, it hides influences from mainly the gothic metal/electro scene, as well from rock'n'roll, EBM and black metal harshness.
The EP opens with the track blessed with the lovely title 'Fear [at] Horrorween [dot] Com'. It's a diverse cyber metal track including heavy riffing, icy screams and rawer low vocal lines, future pop sampling and wellfitting keylines. The song moves from gentle midtempo parts to uptempo and bashing parts, giving the track a certain amount of accessibility. 'Mannequin' comes up next. It opens with EBM tunes, to be followed by a heavy portion of electro metal. It contains gentle drumming, recogniseable vocal lines, modern riffing and wellplaced sampling and keylines. Overall the song is a little less chaotic and a little more atmospheric than the preverious one, and there's a special mentioning needed for the wicked EBM/dark electro intermezzo hidden within this track. 'Cyber Lust' is the most accessable track on the release. It contains midtempo, though powerful drumming, future pop keylines/sampling, straight to the point riffing and wellbalanced vocal lines. 'Industrial Revolution' follows. It's a mostly electronic based track, including wicked and extravagant sampling, wellfitting keylines, diverse vocal lines and wellplaced blasting parts and riffing. 'Nuclear Fields' is already the final track of this release. It's a track that would musically fit within the electro rock/metal genre, but mixed with the extremer vocal lines it suits more into the cyber metal one. It has very present and light keylines, darker intermezzo's, soft sampling and harsh riffing and programming. It's a wellfitting end of this release.
Although Khadaver proudly exposes some of their extremer roots in nearly every track (for example - the black metal passages in 'Fear [at] Horrorween [dot] Com' and 'Mannequin', as well the different kinds of electronic works on 'Cyber Lust' and 'Nuclear Fields'), the release has a mostly accessable feeling overall. It hides thin connections with bands such as The Kovenant, T3chn0ph0b1a (vocal wise!), Scorngrain and maybe even small touches of cyberpunk. Therefore, 'Beta Version' is a release fans of the preveriously mentioned bands can buy without any risk for a dissapointment. As well - the more open minded industrial (cyber) metal fan will probably dig this stuff.
