Artist: KILT.
Album: Everything / Nothing
Year: 2009

Another band hailing from the Finnish lakes. Kilt. (Kilt-dot - yes, indeed) is a five piece from Helsinki, who claims to blend alternative metal with touches from industrial and triphop. The band plays instrumental music, and works with various guest vocalists (including Jessi Frey from Velcra as probably the most known one in the industrial metal scene). 'Everything / Nothing' is the debut release of this group, containing 12 tracks and wrapped in a weird but recycled (!) cardboard sleeve - with vegetable colorings !

First track,” Are We Going out Tonight, Honey?" starts with a beat that establishes everything adding layers of sound to it with synths and drums. Next track, "Undo", a mirage of music and sounds start this track out with vocals softly added to the fabric. Distortion of the vocals towards the end of the middle followed by unexpected screams, this track is very entertaining and fun to get lost in. Third track,” Then We Die", begins with eerie sounds and vocals clips before adding in guitars to pump things up a bit rawring drums Play harmoniously with the guitar. Distorted yet calm vocals start half-way through; even the screams are on the smooth side. Next up, "Oh, What a Sight", begins with set sounds of guitar and drum beats but giving way to chaos with guttarlesque screams. The composure of this track is amazing and beautifully blended. Fifth track, "Dear Truth", begins with low guitar and bass, vocals low distorted and slow are added. The music is torn up for a small duration before returning to the original tempo. Sixth track, "Human Failure", fast tempo drums dominating Followed by guitars in partnership with screaming vocals. Spoken clips slowly mute away in the sound to close out. Next up, "Keptet", guitars start out before adding an electrical whirl followed closely by drums. It is slowed by spoken vocal clips and slower guitar and cymbals. Screaming vocals shatter the false silence of this ever changing track, makes for great fun. Seventh track, "Manoeuvre", small break with vocal free track, with horns in the back and a mirage of sounds. Ninth track, "On a Stolen Land", the opening is loud and in your face a perfect pairing the synths are quickly slammed by drums. Vocals being the slower tempo with drums and guitar ever present. A silenced intermission is awaken by guitar and drumming. Next track, "Statistics", loud slamming drums and guitar with screaming high pitched screams slam this track in your face, silently ending to continue to surprise. Eleventh track, "The Verdict", guitars and drums beat their way through this track low spoken clips followed by screams accompany the music wonderfully. Last track, "Sigma Way", synths start slowly to open with choir like vocals. The guitars liven it up with silenced vocals thrashed by screams before returning to choir sounding vocals.

This band so versatility in not only the album but in each track, very fun and interesting to listen to again and again. I’m very impressed and want many more releases.
