Artist: KRELL
Album: Krell
Year: 2006

Krell is an ambitious new band from Spain. This trio says to combine the good elements of techno pop (Kraftwerk a.o.), EBM, synth pop (Depeche Mode a.o.), old school metal and industrial. The result was born pretty quick, because only a few months after their birth their self titled debut demo has been released. Four tracks, ready to be discovered.

That they are not telling a story without any foundation is proved at once, because all the mentioned influences are already hearable in the very first track. 'Soul Eater' leads you from Fear Factory riffs to Sisters of Mercy guitars and Kraftwerk programming. The catchyness and the extremely well fitting vocals turn this song even into a potential dancefloor killer! I caught myself several times trying to dance on my chair, and when the song ends after about 5,5 minutes the silence sounds pretty uncomfortable. Luckly, the next song has already started before you could say 'polish the Polish police'. 'Fragile (Gary Numan adaptation)' After some internet research I found out that 'adaptation' can be replaced by 'cover' as well, and although I don't know the original song I must say that this song really amazes me! Powerful sampling and an amazing synth outro are the main things to remember about this track, as well the catchyness of the lyrics. 'III' is a more doomy sounding track, with excellent piano works in it. Krell proves that they are no nobodies when it comes how to use a guitar the way it fits the best in a song. This song is most probably written by the vocalist if you ask me, because his kind of vocals really fit this song brilliantly. 'Tale of a Common Day' is maybe the most experimental track, with even a little winks to Elvis Presley in the music! This song is easy listening as well, but if you ask me the 7 minutes this song takes are 3 minutes too long. Another thing worth mentioning is the originality of this band. There is NO band that sound like Krell does! Bands like Aux Raus, Die Krupps and maybe even KMFDM and Unk! can come close here and there, but will definitely not win it of these guys when it comes to originality. And, if you can already produce this only a few months after your birth, you really have got major potential to become even better!
