Year: 2004
Insiders and regular visitors of this page may know this
already: Italy really has more than pizza, pasta and
mafia these days. Industrial acts seem to rise every day,
and lots of talented stuff is trying to break through.
What we have here today is the debut EP of a band called
Latexxx Teens, a band including Draconian Order and My
Sixth Shadow members. Introducing themselves as a
‘dangeroud and powerfull industrial glam punk band in
vein of Marilyn Manson, The Kovenant, Murderdolls and
more’, they already manage to call up my curiousity.
Five tracks, twenty minutes and five seconds of glam
punk. ‘Latex (De)Generation’ is the first track of the
EP. Rock & roll sounding guitars mixed with the so-called
raw-clean vocals (think of Marilyn Manson and Wednesday
13). A catchy song, with some spastic sampling in the
background. There is a nice guitar solo hidden in the
song as well. ‘69 Ways To Fuck’ is what follows, maybe
the purest glam punk song of this record. It reminds me
to 80’s punk, but modernized with the influences they
already described before. The vocals in the chorus sound
a little forced here and there, but in the end this
happens to be my favourite song of the EP. I was pretty
surprised to hear a heavy metal kinda intro in the next
song, “21th Century Rebel Idol”. But soon, it changes
into a ballad in Manson style. This song never really
kicks off if you asked me. All the time, you are waiting
when the tempo comes in. And although the drums is a bit
faster when the guitar solo takes place in the end, this
really stays a song that just sounds not completely
finished. Some more industrial reached my ears when
“Lipstick Terrorist” starts. A cool mix between
Motörhead and Murderdolls is a good way to describe it I
think. An old school song modernisized. The chorus is a
catchy one, which makes this song a really good one to
end gigs with. There is also a lot of power in this song.
With “Poision Ivy” the EP ends. A cold, atmospheric
ballad with reminds me to Manson’s ‘Great Big White
World’ in a way. Where ’21th Century Rebel Idol’ sounded
like an unfinished song, this song sounds much better.
It’s a nice song to dream away on, and I think that
songs like this could make this band very popular. In
the end, I would like to call this a nice debut EP. It’s
not that I had the urge to listen to it again, but when
I am in the mood for some old school stuff this will be
one of my first choices. The quality is really
accepteable for a debut. I can recommend this to fans of
Murderdolls and Marilyn Manson but also to fans of 80’s
punk and even Alice Cooper. According to their press kit
they are armed and ready to conquer, they kind of
promised us that we are going to hear from them in the
future. This debut EP is a nice first try, and they
definitely have the potention to become a major act in
their genre.
