Artist: DK DANCE
Album: La Décroissance
Year: 2008
DK Dance is another new band from France (there must be
some kind of industrial virus in the air over there
these days). This threesome exists since 2004, when they
got the idea to mix metal with riot and punk. The result
is this cyberpunk band, that after a few releases
decided to team up with the Canadian dTrash label -
which will also release this brand new La Décroissance
album. According to the biography, this release should
contain quite some black metal influences as well. A
review:
After the intro, the release kicks off with 'La
Décroissance'. It's a wicked cyber punk track, that runs
from black metal riffing to extravagant vocal lines and
introvert programming. 'Gapin' Above The Day Dream'
contains marching programming, thrashy riffing and
extreme vocal lines. Overall, the track is quite
accessable and even pretty danceable. 'La Brave Attitude'
opens with breakcore sounds, to be followed by a wicked
uptempo cyber punk track. The interaction inbetween the
male and female vocals are excellent. Near the end the
song transforms musically into industrial black metal. 'Little
Tirant' has harsh programming works, recogniseable
riffing and the weirdest intermezzo ever (some French
chansonier, or so it seems). Musically the song lays
inbetween industrial black metal (due to the riffing)
and cyberpunk (due to the programming and the vocals). 'Souls
L'Emprise Des Balles' has dark riffing, very wicked
programming and killer, diverse vocal lines. Overall the
song has a modern attitude, and invites you to jump
around. 'Errance' is the most experimental track on the
release. It moves from midtempo old school influenced
parts to chaotic uptempo parts, both mixed with wave and
black metal influences. 'Barricades Contre Boucliers' is
more or less an outro, with very happy, even folky
sounding tunes mixed with evil vocal lines and very few
guitars. The release ends with a bonus track called 'Vocations'.
It contains harsh programming, sticky vocal lines and
powerful guitarwork.
DK Dance shows with 'La Décroissance' that they're an
interesting alternative for many other cyberpunk bands.
They show interesting song structure, wicked ideas on
how to use the raw female vocals in contrast with the
more grim male ones and extremely cool programming. All
the songs are short and straight to the point (no 5
minute tracks here), and don't leave room for any
bullshitting. An interesting release for sure, but maybe
it would be a nice idea to add a bassplayer to the line
up, to increase the power level a bit more?
