Artist: PSIONIC
Album: Manifest
Year: 2005

When a band says to be highly influenced by The Kovenant and even has the same webmaster on their webpage (who also created their logo by the way), the label of ‘Kovenant-clone’ seems logical. The band I am currently talking about is American band Psionic. After their debut album ‘Nu-Tech Cyber Sorcery’ they released the follow-up ‘Manifest’ in 2002. Since I am not known with the preverious work, there is not much material to compare, so I’ll just have a look on what we have here. And look, track 4 and 5 are originally to be found on the debut full lenght anyway!

The ‘Manifest’ release turns out to be an easy listening one. Take a bit of The Kovenant, mix it with a little KMFDM and a little touch of Fear Facoty for the flavour and you will get the idea. Sounds like a good mix huh? Well, reading this now again it sounds like a great mix for me too. But, reality is hard. The songs are musically well build, but the results are not convincing at all. ‘Ground Zero’ is one of the most flat openers I have ever heard, and the longer this release takes the more boring it gets. The vocals miss a lot of depth, and the guitars sound even a bit unfitting at some parts. The only song I like on this record is ‘Grey Race’, a more symphonic and less cyber song, where the keys manage to make the song sound better than the others. But anyway, in the end I would not spend my money on this one. This has been done over a thousand times already, and 95% of the time it has been done way better.
