Artist: BEAST89
Album: My Double Middlefinger Face Punch To The Earth
Year: 2008

As always, bands who have the shortest history and the fewest referrences have the biggest and most vague biography of them all. Beast89 clearly is one of them. A one man project from The Netherlands, formed in 2006, releasing their 2nd demo, simply called "My Double Middlefinger Face Punch To The Earth". Since the other pieces of the biography didn't really interest me, I won't bore you with them either. Fact is that this demo/EP is blessed with five tracks plus two bonus tracks, which all together provides nearly 25 minutes of music.

The release kicks off with an intro called '12 Billion Middlefingers'. It consists of many disturbing sounds, that could be taken straight out of various b-movies. 'Obey The Serpent' is a little more melodic, with ambient likely keylines and ditto programmed guitars. The gentle programming takes care of the melodic part, while the black metal likely vocals take care of a bit more confusion within the track. 'Succubus (A Vampire Serenade)' is more easy listening, with slow programming works and cold keylines. 'Fashion Doll' is again a more disturbing song, with lots of distortion and crazy programming works. The only sort of recogniseable thing in this track are the vocal lines. 'Sulfur' has a more old school touch (at least if you can call this music old school that is), with more bashing programming works and some more experimental vocal lines. Next up comes a demo version of 'Fashion Doll', which truely sounds like a demo version of the original, and a single edit for 'Obey The Serpent', as two bonus tracks for your hearing pleasures.

Musically, Beast89 offers you nothing special. They mix (industrial) black metal with all kinds of ambient, and sometimes even a little bit cybergrind and noise(core). However, if you don't take all of this music too seriously, there might be something nice in here for you. Ever wondered how it would sound if Claudio Simonetti was a drinking grindcore fan?
