Artist: MAN.MACHINE.INDUSTRY
Album: The Devils Blues
Year: 2008
Man.Machine.Industry - or MMI to keep it short - was formed in 2000 by ex Slapdash member J. Bergman. Already soon MMI started releasing albums and playing many live shows in Sweden, resulting in several live shows on big festivals in Scandinavia as well supporting bands such as Deathstars. At the time of the release of this EP, MMI has released two albums and is already working really hard on their 3rd and upcoming release. This EP contains six tracks and two nice bonus videos.
The EP opens with 'No Trust'. It's a bashing industrial metal track featuring many old school influences and major touches of wave. It swaps from heavy riffing to guitarless passages and gloomy atmospheres. 'Set It Free' is an accessable industrial metal track, coming with bashing drums, steady straight to the point riffing and an accessable vocal approach. Definitely a track to appeal a wider audience with. The title track of this EP comes up next. It's a midtempo mix of modern industrial metal and old school wave, hiding small touches of cyber metal and cyberpunk. The track is very accessable again overall. 'A.V. (Authorized Version)' is a powerful mix of cyberpunk and industrial metal, hiding small touches of wave and industrial death metal. It's my personal favorite track of this release, coming with brutal drumming, essentially strong riffing and wellfitting vocal lines. 'Virus In Your Soul' swaps from powerful industrial metal parts to orchestral piano passages, giving the song a small wave attitude. Overall the song is brutal though accessable - with straight forward drumming and riffing and sometimes nearly sing-a-long alike vocal lines. 'Care, Trust, Love, Lust' is the final track on the release already. It's a gentle though powerful and modern industrial metal track, mixing wellplaced keylines with tight drumming and typical industrial metal riffing.
With 'The Devils Blues... To Hell And Back', MMI delivers a quite accessable and widely appealing piece, that both the old school and the modern industrial metal fans will dig. The songs are wellcomposed, the production is excellent and most of all the music is strong and powerful. Fans of Ministry, Marazene and MortIIs - as well Undercover Slut and Swamp Terrorists: be sure to check this one out if you have not done so yet.
