Artist: TURMION
KATILOT
Album: Niuva 20
Year: 2005
Turmion Kätilöt is a brand new cyber metal act from
Finland. Ranka Recordings (which collaborates with the
more known Spinefarm label) released their “Niuva 20” EP
in 2005. This EP contains four tracks plus one live
track, and the songs are mainly written in their native
language. It’s pretty hard to find some additional info
on the net about this EP, but as far as our found
information goes this is the follow-up of their debut
album “Hoitovirhe”. They released a couple of singles so
far as well.
‘Sika!’ is the first track. It shows already that
Turmion Kätilöt doesn’t came on this world to find any
compromises (but the one of dance and metal). Awesome
electronic works are the main basis of this song, mixed
with industrial death metal guitar work and a vocalist
that can break down a new wall in each new line! The
whole song is bashing from the beginning until the end,
and I found myself bouncing on the bedroom floor. While
I am still bouncing there, the second song has already
started. ‘Kirosana’ is a little more trance based than
the preverious track, but don’t be afraid for any lose
of power. With some imagination, I think this song can
best be described as a Rammstein gig in a nuclear
powerplant... now try to find out what I mean with that!
Like an Oomph! song, but ten times faster... anyway, the
next track is playing already. ‘Varjot’ continues to
walk on this path. It’s probably the most experimental
parts, with gunshot drumparts, orchestral parts,
industrial metal parts and techno parts. Could be a bit
related to Deathstars here and there too. ‘Stormbringer’
is a cover of Deep Purple. Unfortunately I am not known
with the original song, but I must say that this cover
version sounds damn sweet! Modern trance/electro parts
mixed with old school guitar work (reminds me to
Rammstein in a strong way) give this cover some weird
identity which will definitely be loved by old school
fans. The next song is a live version of ‘Liitto’, which
is a song that can originally be found on their
“Hoitovirhe” album. It’s a cool, more metal than trance
based song which is recorded with a good sound.
Unfortunately, this is the last track of the EP. It’s
hard to believe that this is just an 18 minutes EP,
because it seems like you could do with these tracks
forever! Fans of MortIIs, Rammstein, Unk!, Dope Stars
Inc., Oomph!, MXD, Reel and bands in common will
definitely agree with this rating!
