Artist: BEAT IN ZEN vs. NUDE
Album: Biz'art Nudist Is Good Meat!!!
Year: 2009
The die-hard readers of this webzine might remember the review I did a year or three ago for Beat In Zen's 'Fifth Victory' album. Back then this band was new to me and managed to surprise me in a very positive way with their fresh approach of industrial metal. What we have here now is a collaboration of Beat In Zen with a German band called Nude, resulting in this six track EP coming in a DVD juwel case.
'Minds' is the first track on this release. It comes with fast drum'n'bass programming, accessable female vocal lines, diverse basslines and sampling and a cyberpunk approach on the riffing, resulting in an uptempo danceable track. 'I Like' features a mix of techno and breakbeat drumming (with a slightly junglish approach), simple but straight forward and powerful riffing and diverse keylines and sampling. Overall the track is pretty accessable because of the danceable approach. 'Abre al Boca' mixes sounds and influences from out of the EBM corner with jungle and tiny touches of breakbeat, resulting in a highly electronic influenced track with a gentle danceable rhytm. The subtile added riffing and vocal lines are essential for it's cyber metal approach. 'Moon' brings us influences from synth pop and ambient, combined with steady riffing and experimental though dark sampling. The female vocal lines make this track the most accessable one on the release. 'Look Back' is the most poppy song on the release. It contains of very accessable rhytms and vocal lines, wellplaced guitars and vocal lines that have a high MTV fix. Maybe Lady Gaga will cover this track in the future? Anyway, the release ends with a track called 'Dreams' - which turns out to be the most experimental track on the release. It's a catchy mix of electro, techno, wave, cyberpunk, synthpop and breakbeat - resulting in a five minutes whirlwind without losing any accessibility.
I had no idea what to expect when I threw this into my CD player the first time. After that first time, it hasn't been out of my CD player much. Songs like 'Minds' and 'Abre Al Boca' make me want to press the repeat button time after time. If you're getting curious about this release now, don't wait any longer. Download it for free at their MySpace profile to get your personal audio fix.
