Artist: NYNE
Album: Nyne
Year: 2006

It has been a while since I reviewed some industrial metal from Greece. Come to think about it, I don’t think I have ever reviewed industrial metal from Greece anyway! So this will be the first review of a Greek band on this page as far as I can remember, and it’s immidiately some heavy stuff. Nyne combines black metal with industrial metal and cold, symphonic synths. A quick look on the website of this four-piece band tells us that they are highly influenced by sci-fi and horror movies and that they already played a gig with Mayhem in Athens in the beginning of 2005. These guys describe their sound as ‘futuristic black metal’... is this really the future, or have we heard this stuff already in the past?

‘Inner:Verse’ is the first track of the release. Pure industrial is mixed with some classical works in the beginning, but after some seconds Hell breaks loose. The programming sounds like an army training, and the raw black metal vocals fits the package extremely well. Further on, this song sounds like a perfect symphonic black metal song with some crazy and wicked industrial parts. The intermezzo is maybe the most experimental part of this song, which can even be related to T.Raumschmiere in a way! ‘Sixth Pain’ is the second and the longest track of the promo. While the first 15 seconds are trying to convince you that this might be a Fear Factory influenced song, Nyne wakes you up out of that dream forever with the rest of the track. It is a less brutal and more atmospheric track with an EBM sounding intermezzo and a bashing end. Decent though surprisingly build, and don’t we all love positive surprises? ‘Constellation of Fear’ turned out to be my favourite track of the promo. The first 45 seconds contains some easy listening industrial metal to get you in the mood, which slowly transforms into a symphonic black metal song with pumping industrial sampling and blasting drumparts. Very atmospheric, and the movie influences are clearly hearable here as well. ‘Necropolis’ is already the last track of the record. This track somehow reminds me to The Kovenant (which is definitely a compliment!) when you mix their current stuff with their debut album: cold synth parts with brutal drumming and a little touch of the old school... this all wrapped into an industrialized typhoon. Although, I think it is fair enough to say that this band has created an own, unique style already all over this promo! It is very satisfying to hear that there are still people who are willing to experiment with industrial elements in black metal, and with Nyne we finally have a new and very promising act who seems not afraid of conquer the world. For fans of Aborym, Blacklodge and ...And Oceans this promo is a definite must!
