Glaukom Synod is a one-man project hailing from the
north of France. Gabriel S., who created this project in
the mid-nineties (although it really started to became
something serious in 2004), describes his own project
like this: ‘Strange noises often escape the torture
chamber, as the walls often tremble under the sarcastic
beats of the agonizing computer’. What he really tries
to say to us with this description will be hearable on
the very first demo called ‘Obsessism XXIII’, which is
limited to a single 150 copies.
When I heard the second track (first one is an intro of
18 seconds) I was rather surprised to hear some
basslines that sounded familiar. A quick search through
my CD collection didn’t gave me the answer I was
searching for, but the Glaukom Synod website did. The
bassline and the opening snare drum are done by Inhumate!
So actually, this guy is mixing some very raw death/grind
stuff into noisy songs! Wow, what a damn good idea! Next
to Inhumate samplers, Glaukom Synod also uses samples of
Godflesh and Deicide to name a few. Anyway, back to the
real essential thing about this release: the music
itself. I was brainstorming for days to find a way to
describe this stuff, but I still didn’t manage to find a
good description. Glaukom Synod mixes a lot of noise/ambient
with industrial (black) metal, and of course the
‘wellknown’ samples I mentioned before. All into one big
chaotic package. Not the random stuff I listen daily to,
but I must admit that it somehow appeals nicely to me. I
have heard lots of stuff like this from France lately (Beat
In Zen, ZNO...) but Glaukom Synod is ten times as sick.
This demo is pretty weird at first, but after a while
you’ll get used to it and you even hear some potential
cybergoth clubsongs. People who are known with the
project of Martijn (who makes also reviews for IM.tk)
should really try this shit out!
